Grameen Development Services (GDS) was established in February 1993 for the socio-economic empowerment of poor and disadvantaged section of society particularly women living in the areas of structural poverty in India, through promoting and strengthening the livelihoods. Over the course of three decades, GDS has evolved into a successful grassroots-level professional non-governmental organization (NGO) in the country. Through various livelihood initiatives, GDS has impacted the lives of approximately 1.25 lakh rural households in the states of Uttar Pradesh (UP), Bihar, and Rajasthan. Throughout its journey, GDS has consistently responded to the ever-changing needs and social and development context of the communities and the larger society. While maintaining a primary focus on livelihood promotion, the organization has repeatedly adjusted its approach and operational strategies to suit the situation in diverse contexts. As a result, the organization has gained significant experience by implementing various projects supported by renowned national and international funding agencies.

GDS has been executing a project ‘Strengthening Livelihoods through Agriculture Development’ located at Jamunaha block of Shravasti district in floodplains of eastern Uttar Pradesh. The project focuses on increasing income of small and marginal farmers through the agriculture, livestock and welfare-schemes based project interventions to improve their quality of life. GDS invites applications from suitable candidates for the following positions lying vacant;

Subject Matter Specialist (SMS) – Agriculture (1)

GDS has been implementing ‘Climate Smart Agriculture & Livestock’ to strengthen agriculture based livelihoods of small and marginal farmers in two blocks; Gilaula and Sirsiya in Shravasti district of eastern Uttar Pradesh. Various agriculture based interventions including promotion of high value crops are being implemented in the project area. The Project has developed a network of community based institutions and individual Agriculture Entrepreneurs (AEs) channelized to FPO for enhancing agriculture income of farmers through promotion of agri-business among FPC and AEs. GDS invites applications from suitable candidates for the post of SMS-Agriculture lying vacant.

Shravasti district headquarter at Bhinga town

Salary ;

Rs. 55,000/-per month

Qualification & experiences :

• M.Sc. in Agriculture (Agronomy/ horticulture) and minimum 7 years of relevant experience in agriculture development activities. Experience of Agri-business promotion and management will be an added advantage.

• Experience in promotion of natural farming, regenerative farming, or organic farming and also agribusiness promotion and management will be an added advantage.

• Fairly good leadership and team management skills would be required

• Excellent documentation, communication, and presentation skills in English and Hindi (both written and verbal)

• Proficient with MS Office, especially MS Excel, MS Powerpoint, and Database Management ? Ability to multitask and work well with multiple stakeholders, internal and external

Key Responsibilities :

• Provide support to project team for preparing annual/seasonal work plan of agriculture activities suggesting new ideas for innovation and achievement.

• Develop & modify context specific package of practices (PoPs) in consultation with scientists, experts and also farmers for high value crops and pulses being promoted by the project.

• Provide technical guidance on crop PoPs to field team members and farmers during their orientation & capacity building programmes and follow-ups through on-site visits to demo plots in project villages.

• Assess agri-input requirement in support with Block Coordinators, FCs AEs and CRPs, initiate process for procurement and ensure supply of quality inputs to farmers.

• Provide guidance to CRPs, AEs & FCs for maintaining crop related records like crop cards, crop data sheet etc. and random verification on sample basis.

• Coordinate with govt. agriculture & horticulture departments at block and district level to mobilize convergence with various schemes & programmes like FMBs, seeds, agri-chemicals for crop protection, agriculture equipments & implements, drip/sprinkler, solar pumps etc. through DBT contributing with Project interventions.

• Liaisoning with scientists, experts and agriculture institutions to explore resources and expertise for benefit of farmers.

• Provide on-site technical guidance to farmers on demo plots for proper crop management and redressal of related grievances raised by farmers while undertaking field visits.

• Prepare documentation on best practices in agriculture adopted in Project area and share these for replication at other locations during review meetings.
