About Us:

Society for Labour and Development (SLD) is a labour rights and support organization based out of the National Capital Region. Established in 2006, SLD has a pan-India footprint and primarily addresses the rights and aspirations of workers with an emphasis on women workers. SLD has a physical presence in seven states, but works throughout the country through collaborations with like-minded organizations. SLD's efforts extend beyond advocacy and awareness-raising, as we also provide direct support to workers, through a series of activities such as legal aid, psycho-social counselling, non-formal adult literacy programs and other skill development programs. Our action-research is directed towards the most relevant and challenging issues confronting workers in numerous industries of the global supply chain.

About the Role 

SLD is seeking an experienced Associate - Communications & Advocacy to lead the organization's strategic planning and implementation of scaling and visualizing. We are looking to build and scale our outreach, communications, advocacy, fundraising and visibility results by building strong networking grounds through our work. The organization realizes it is critical to engage across verticals and produce compelling materials and assets for the organization. The associate shall help the organization to build its online and offline presence, support in strengthening communications and advocacy platforms across verticals. The Associate - Communications & Advocacy shall report to the Associate Senior Manager – Programmes and will be matrix managed by the Consultant – Strategic Communications. This position will support colleagues in the field/regional offices to ensure effective implementation of communications strategies, media relations and organizational outreach efforts. 

Roles and Responsibilities: 

Strategic Communications Planning and Development 

Develop and   implement   strategic   communication   and   advocacy   plans   to   increase   the organization’s visibility and reach.

Collaborate with the programs team to align communication strategies with organizational goals and objectives.

Produce compelling content for various channels, including websites, social media, newsletters, and reports.

Create social media and engagement IEC materials along with the design team reflecting

organization’s mission, activities, success stories, media kits, op-eds etc.

Manage the organization’s social media handles, creating engaging posts, campaigns, and updates. 

Track and analyze digital metrics to optimize engagement and outreach efforts.

Work closely with the field/regional teams to tailor communication strategies and materials for local contexts.

Identify fundraising opportunities and work closely with the Associate Senior Manager - Programmes to build funding applications.

Stakeholder Engagement and Networking 

Foster and expand networking opportunities to support strategic partnerships with stakeholders, including industry partners, civil society organizations and governmental bodies.

Represent the organization at events, forums and networks to increase visibility and advocacy reach.

Coordinate with program teams to align advocacy messages with programmatic work and identify emerging advocacy opportunities.

Develop branding guidelines, templates, and tools for use by internal and external stakeholders.

Ensure consistency of the organization's brand across all platforms and materials. 

Streamlining Organizational Documentation 

Track and report on the effectiveness of communications and advocacy efforts, providing insights and recommendations.

Support in drafting and compilation of the Annual reports

Develop contingency   plans   and   respond to   potentially   sensitive   issues to   protect   the organization’s reputation.

Manage donor databases and ensure timely follow-ups with potential and existing donors. 

This role requires a proactive approach, strong storytelling abilities, and excellent interpersonal and organizational skills to drive effective communication and advocacy across diverse platforms and audiences. 

Qualifications and Experience: 

3-5 years of experience with a master's degree in communications, Journalism, social sciences

7+ years of experience with a bachelor's degree in similar lines.

Prior experience in working with a grassroots or community led organization.

Strong understanding of feminist and rights-based principles.

Demonstrated knowledge of societal discrimination as a systemic issue rooted in historical, economic and cultural contexts

Ability in applying this understanding in program design, advocacy initiatives, and/or grassroots outreach activities will be considered a strong asset

Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary cross-functional teams.

Preferred Skills: 

Privy with social media handling multiple platforms at the same time.

Advanced expertise in content writing and development.

Knowledge of editing tools like – Adobe Photoshop, Canva etc. 

Experience in stakeholder engagement and building partnerships.

Experience in fundraising and resource mobilization

Prior knowledge of developing content for organizational website development.

Sensitivity to cultural and social diversity, with a commitment to promoting equality and inclusion. 

Type of Appointment:

Contractual appointment with fixed term of 12 months. Renewal thereafter on basis of performance and requirements of project/SLD.
