Position: Innovation Lead - New Design & Technology

Location: SELCO Foundation, Bengaluru, Karnataka

Reports to: Director, SELCO Foundation

Starting date: Immediately

SELCO Foundation seeks to inspire and implement socially, financially and environmentally inclusive solutions by improving access to sustainable energy. SELCO Foundation’s key objectives are systematically identify diverse needs of the poor, understand and define the role of sustainable development, poverty alleviation and decentralized energy, create and deploy innovative solutions that positively impact well-being, health, education and livelihoods towards the alleviation of poverty and foster the development of enabling conditions or an ecosystem through holistic thought processes in technology, finance, entrepreneurship and policy.

As one of the priority development verticals, we are working to develop sustainable energy driven solutions for Agriculture. Under the Agricultural vertical we have been working on specific value chains such as millets, rice, spice, tomato, potato and with agri cooling as a value chain cutting across all horticulture produce. SELCO seeks to develop sustainable energy solutions across agri commodity value chains in order to improve, diversifying farm incomes and reducing drudgery across agri processes and activities. Specifically, we are looking at technologies that bring about value among small marginal farmers and entrepreneurs, FPOs, FPC's, SHG and other stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

• To work closely with the programmatic and implementation team to keep abreast of the programs being implemented in order to capture learnings in a timely manner. And to work with the data piece of the knowledge wing to have effective interventions.
• To conduct research relevant to the programs which are of interest and importance to the organization at the time which will help inform programs and strategize better.
• To capture learnings through crisp documentation, develop interesting templates whichwill be relevant to a wide range of audience - on field partners, larger sectoral organizations, funders, global platforms etc.
• To be thoroughly informed and have a finger on the pulse of the developments in thesector.
• To travel to the field as and when required for research and documentation purposes.
• Develop documentation and research pitches by coordinating within teams and staying in loop of the programs being developed and implemented.
• Work with the team to strategize programs, gather and collate learnings and provideinsights.
• Coordination with partner organizations, end users, field coordinators, consultants andmyriad other stakeholders to gather qualitative and quantitative data and information for required pieces of innovation requirements
• To support the teams in developing training modules and packages of solutions forfarmers, traders, entrepreneurs etc.
• To coordinate with the other geography teams of SELCO and support them in developingprograms to create cross learning platforms for the specified value chain.
• To lead innovation and mentor the ongoing NDT team.
• To manage the deliverables and the day to day tasks of the team.
• Analyze the requirements of the team as well as the organization continuously and move towards fulfilling them accordingly.
• Manage and maintain the inter team rapport within the organization and the subsequent rapport that will follow.
• To enable all program teams to be able to collect, aggregate and analyze the problem statements seamlessly ( Machine and user perspective problems )
• Develop standardized NDT/Design development process template with timeline and progress matrix for each stage for program teams to refer back to.
• Build a database of external vendors, fabricators, manufacturers and consultants to work with when required on need/project bases.
• To work with the incubation team and provide design support to the innovators/incubatees.

Key requirements:

• Specific Interested in energy access, livelihood and ecosystem building
• Able to conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis
• Proficiency in using Microsoft Office, Excel and PowerPoint. Visual software skillssuch as Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and any virtual prototyping tools are desirable
• Between 6+ years of working experience with Product design/development firms or organizations.
• An industrial design portfolio showcasing best work.
• In-depth knowledge of Industrial design practices and manufacturing techniques.
• Familiarity with research methodologies, tools and analysis for qualitative and quantitative studies
• Sound knowledge of the livelihood sector. Renewable energy and social development
• Good analytical skills.
• The ability to assess the problem statement , draw meaningful insights and articulate design briefs
• Efficient user/knowledge of 2d and 3d CAD softwares.
• Fluency in oral and written English.
• Proficiency in other languages such as Hindi, Kannada and other regional languages will be an addon.
• Experience in managing a team, assigning/managing tasks, reporting and delivering on time.
• Willingness to participate in field activities/surveys and travel to remote areas within the region/other geographies.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• Willing & enthusiastic learner and as the ability to perform under deadline pressure
