Location: Darjeeling, West Bengal, India

Overview

The Women's Safety Accelerator Fund (WSAF) is a bold new program to address
gender-based violence (GBV) and promote women's safety in the Indian tea sector. Starting with tea producers in Assam, the fund will implement the Global Women's Safety Framework for Rural Spaces by UN Women and Unilever (GWSF) across geographies and commodity supply chains.

About Sakshi

Sakshi’s work over the last 29 years has focused on strengthening systemic mechanisms and enabling preventive interventions for the practice of Everyday Equality.

A pioneer in working for Gender Equality & Responsible Sexuality in India, Sakshi was founded as a rights based, capacity-building NGO in 1992, and was the force behind two landmark PILs – ‘Vishaka Vs. State of Rajasthan’ & ‘Sakshi Vs. Union of India,’ which became the backbone for several gender-based laws including POCSO 2012 and POSH 2013.

Sakshi spearheaded the Asia Pacific Advisory Forum for Judicial Education on Gender Equality for the Judiciary of 5 countries of the Region; India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh & Sri-Lanka. The 10 Year programme was crucial in mainstreaming Gender Equality Education in the Judiciary and came to be recognized as a ‘Best Practice’ Model by UN Women.

Over the last decade, Sakshi has led several campaigns and award-winning initiatives for Social Arts and Communication for Development. Sakshi aims to empower women, children, youth and marginalized groups by focusing on: Life skills, Equality Education, Diversity & Inclusion, Gender Mainstreaming, Dialogue, Negotiation, Conflict Resolution and Transformational Leadership.

About the Project

This is a year-long intervention with an estimate of covering 23 estates, consisting of an average of 700 workers per estate. These estates will be in the districts of Darjeeling, West Bengal.

In order to build stakes and increase awareness for prevention of Gender-Based Violence, the programme through meetings, trainings and workshops, seeks to:

1. Build stakes with Local Ecosystems at the District Level and Tea Estate Management, (Managers and Staff)
2. Train the change agents (Women Leaders, Tea Estate Managers/Staff, Adolescent Groups) on issues of women safety and Gender-Based Violence
3. Carry out sustained engagement within the community through social arts based interventions. These include focussed sessions with the tea estate workers, (women and men), as well as the community (families living on the tea estate) using theater based pedagogy and immersive learning design.

Note: A detailed programme activity plan is ready and will be shared with the finalized candidates.

Job Description

The Trainers will be responsible for facilitating and leading all training sessions, workshops and focused group discussions for gender sensitization, particularly in order to prevent Violence Against Women and Girls in the tea estates. They shall also be responsible for case studies, data collection and progress monitoring.

The incumbent will work closely with the tea plantation workers and community members to deliver the following outputs:

• Conduct field trainings for gender sensitization
• Conduct GBV awareness workshops either individually or with a training team at the Tea Estates and Communities,
• Developing and delivering multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences.
• Work closely with external ecosystem service providers
• Support and contribute to reports and communications regarding program deadlines, training objectives and monitoring/ evaluation activities.

Activities and Tasks

Responsibilities would include, but not be limited to, the following:

1. Facilitate and lead the meetings, workshops, FGDs, theatre games, training with all the stakeholders on the tea estate, including the management, workers, and communities.
2. Responsible for case studies, and reporting.
3. Document field level program activities, including training and share regular reports with the Project Manager and Supervisor.
4. Participate in periodic review and planning meetings and submit the advance monthly work plan, progress reports and necessary documentation specified from time to time as per requirements.
5. Mobilize and activate the participants for the on ground activities of the programme;

Qualifications

The applicant is required to possess:

• A professional degree in gender, development studies, social science, political science, or any other relevant field.
• 3 or more years of work experience in Training and Development.
• Strong demonstrated ability to plan, conceptualize and deliver effective programs.
• Strong analytical and presentation skills;
• Experience in engaging with senior management.
• Excellent communication skills, with demonstrated ability to communicate in both English and Hindi. Fluency in Bengali/Nepali/Sadri is desirable
• It is desirable for the applicant to have:
• 1 or more years of experience as a theatre practitioner and or experiential educator

Duration of the project : Upto 31st December 2022
Stipend : 15,000/month (Fixed)
