Project manager for project on women’s leadership and labour rights in the garment sector of Karnataka.
About the Role
The Fund for Global Human Rights has been working in the area of labour rights and women for the last two decades. FGHR is looking to hire a project manager (as a consultant) for the period of three years to plan and manage a project on women’s leadership and labour rights in the garment sector in Karnataka. The project will support organisations that have identified specific niche areas and approaches to improve the skills, perspectives and resilience of workers in the garment sector of Karnataka.
Reports to: India Programs Director
The consultant is expected to:
- Have a demonstrated commitment to gender equality, worker equity and anti-caste practise
- Have the capacity to learn and understand trends and patterns of climate change, gender and labour in the context of the garment industry in India and globally
- Follow FGHRs procedures and systems in grant management and learning and assessment.
- Take the initiative to design a need-based learning programme for partners to strengthen holistic leadership including building collaborations with resource persons/institutions for training
- Documenting the learnings of the project progress as per the needs
- Support the India Program Director on issues concerning the project and other such matters.
We are looking for a candidate who:
- Has at least five years of experience in any or more of the following areas: garment sector, labour organising, leadership facilitation, project management.
- Is self-motivated, open-minded, deep listener, team player, collaborative learner, transparent and able to meet deadlines
- Is able to travel across Karnataka and use basic digital technology with ease and confidence
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in Kannada. Knowledge of English, Tamil and Telugu would be an added advantage.
- Has extensive networks/contacts in the area of labour rights and the garment sector in Karnataka and is aware of different approaches, models, and trends in the sector
- Is able to represent the project/initiative accurately, build relationships of trust and maintain integrity and confidentiality as required.
