An Exhibition entitled "Islamic Art: Between Authenticity and Contemporaneity" will be held at the Museum of Islamic Art in Cairo. This Exhibition is organised by the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities (MoTA) within the framework of the Museums of Islamic Art (MIA) project with the assistance of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation.

This exhibition provides an opportunity to go through history and time and learn about some of the finest examples of Islamic art from different eras. It features some thirty artifacts from the Museum of Islamic Art and the Manial Palace Museum in Cairo that have been participating in the Museums of Islamic Art (MIA) project under the UNESCO/Italian Funds-in-Trust. The masterpieces of Islamic art conserved under the MIA project are put on display under the four themes of Highlights of Islamic Heritage, Crafts in the Islamic World and Science with Muslims, and Islamic Influence on Western Civilization.

The exhibition aims to raise awareness of past and contemporary artistic expression of Islam and the contribution of culture through Islamic Art to civilization. It opens windows for understanding the exchange and interconnectedness among different cultures, which have been shaping Islamic art over the centuries.

The MIA project has also been supporting the capacity building for conservation and museum management, educational and outreach activities for vulnerable groups, a webinar series "Global Dialogue on the Role of 'Contemporary' Museums of Islamic Art", interactive digital solutions to the participating museums, namely, MIA, National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC), Manial Palace and Gayer Anderson Museum.
