Able the Disabled: One of the most urgent wishes and needs of the city is to be disabled-friendly. ?Negotiating roads, parks, markets, even getting out of the house is a constant challenge for the disabled,? feels Harman Sidhu of ArriveSafe, an NGO working on road safety and sustainable transportation. From the slippery glossy floors of malls and commercial buildings, lack of dedicated tracks and ramps for wheelchair-bound people, assistance for visually impaired in the form of braille signboards or straight pathways to special parking slots for the disabled ? these are the primary missing amenities for the disabled. ?Somehow we are treated as normal. So using public utility services has become a challenge. And people rarely help, they don?t even give way to an ambulance,? says wheelchair-bound Sidhu.More tourist attractions: Chandigarh may be the best value destination in India for a city break, according to TripIndex Cities (TripAdvisor?s annual cost comparison study). It may also be one of the top 45 favoured destinations for a New Year bash this year, according to Traveljee.com, but when it comes to actual tourism, tourists and holiday hot spots here, the city is still dining out at the Rock Garden and Sukhna Lake. It?s time to pitch new territories, especially the Government Art Gallery and Museum. - See more at: http://indianexpress.com/article/cities/chandigarh/new-wishes-new-hopes-new-year/#sthash.4PbmcRo7.dpuf - See more at: http://indianexpress.com/article/cities/chandigarh/new-wishes-new-hopes-new-year/#sthash.4PbmcRo7.dpuf
