Ludhiana: After a report carried in The Times of India on children in some government schools making do without basic infrastructure, a city- based NGO has come forward to help. The NGO distributed mats in two government schools on Friday.
VS Jindal, general manager, Nikhil Singal Noble Trust, said they were shocked to read about the condition of the school children in The Times of India, dated January 21 and decided to do what they could.
"We distributed mats for students of Government Primary School, Field Gunj in the old city and assured school authorities and students that we would also work to provide clean drinking water in the school," said Jindal.
Managing trustee of the organisation, Vinay Singal said after reading the news the Trust members conducted a survey of the schools. "So we decided to provide students with winter dresses, shoes, mats, desks and clean drinking water. It was good to see the happiness writ large on the faces of the children and their teachers. We want students to learn in a good atmosphere," said Singal.
