Grameen Development Services (GDS) was established in February 1993 for the socio-economic empowerment of poor and disadvantaged section of society particularly women living in the areas of structural poverty in India, through promoting and strengthening the livelihoods. Over the course of three decades, GDS has evolved into a successful grassroots-level professional non-governmental organization (NGO) in the country. Through various livelihood initiatives, GDS has impacted the lives of approximately 1.25 lakh rural households in the states of Uttar Pradesh (UP), Bihar, and Rajasthan. Throughout its journey, GDS has consistently responded to the ever-changing needs and social and development context of the communities and the larger society. While maintaining a primary focus on livelihood promotion, the organization has repeatedly adjusted its approach and operational strategies to suit the situation in diverse contexts. As a result, the organization has gained significant experience by implementing various projects supported by renowned national and international funding agencies.

GDS has been executing a project ‘Strengthening Livelihoods through Agriculture Development’ located at Jamunaha block of Shravasti district in floodplains of eastern Uttar Pradesh. The project focuses on increasing income of small and marginal farmers through the agriculture, livestock and welfare-schemes based project interventions to improve their quality of life. GDS invites applications from suitable candidates for the following positions lying vacant;

Project Executive – Institution Building & Entitlement Linkage (1)

The key role of Project Executive – IB & EL will be to create and capacitate a network of various types of community institutions of small and marginal farmers in the project villages for sustainable action. The capacity building of these community institutions would be required for implementation of project interventions in the field. Facilitation for linkage of these farmers with various government welfare/agriculture/horticulture schemes through their registration on government portals would be crucial role to mobilize convergence/leverage through DBT, subsidies, relief etc. for increasing the income of the farmers.

Salary :

Rs. 40,000/-per month

Qualifiation & experiences :

• Post graduate in Social Sciences with 5 years experience in Community Institution and networking/ Linkages

• Experience of working in coordination with NRLM/SRLM

• Good communication skills to motivate goat rearers for adoption of improved goat rearing practices

• Excellent documentation, communication, and presentation skills in English and Hindi (both written and verbal)

• Proficient with MS Office, especially MS Excel, MS Power point, and Database Management ? Ability to multitask and work well with multiple stakeholders, internal and external.

Key Responsibilities :

• Conduct village mapping in support with project team members for existing community institutions particularly SHGs organized by UPSRLM and other stakeholders, if any and assess potential for new groups.

• Prepare annual/periodic work plan for strengthening of PGs/SHGs.

• Organize PGs/SHGs with left out households in phased manner in cohesion with RF and conduct their capacity building through trainings & exposures in coordination with UPSRLM local teams to cover all project villages with PGs, SHGs, etc.

• Prepare community to organize secondary/village level groups and federate them at apex level for addressing their broad agriculture issues at village & block level.

• Facilitate the process for integrating group activities with project interventions to ensure collective response from farmers towards production and aggregation for marketing of their agri-produce.

• Prepare community based institutions to establish and manage farm machinery banks and small farm machinery centres through local entrepreneurs at their respective locations.

• Enhance PGs/SHGs linkage with mainstreams departments, other than agriculture and horticulture, with particular mention of panchayati raj for renovation of water bodies in their villages.

• Conduct awareness sessions among target farming households and community institutions about various government schemes (social welfare/agriculture/horticulture) , facilitate their linkages through registration on relevant portals and follow-ups.

• Arrange capacity building of project team for mobilizing convergence with government schemes through DBT, subsidies, relief etc.

• Develop PGs/SHGs profile and their data base with information on location, name, membership, group code etc. as per format devised centrally by TT-SPMU.

• Arrange PG/SHG status mapping on certain criteria as decided to ascertain sustainability and planning for withdrawal of project support for interventions and document best practices among PGs & SHGs.

• Collect relevant data from field and extend support to Project Manager for preparing reports.
