Position: Head/ Lead – Education Program

Location: Jodhpur, Rajasthan (With regular travel within Rajasthan and outside)

Reporting: Country Advisor

Team supervision: 10 – 20 and partner organisations

Remuneration: Based on qualification and experience

Womenserve (WS) is a private foundation based in California, USA that seeks to unlock the potential of women and girls in Western Rajasthan, India. The foundation partners with non-profit organizations, impact funds and social innovators to build individual and community power with a primary focus on three areas:

This is an exciting growth phase for the organisation where we are exploring new entities, scaling up operations, networking, partnerships.

About the Role

WomenServe’s Education program will aim at:
a. Improving quality education in government schools with focus on girls’ enrolment, retention and at least 1000 girls completing education in the operational areas and also on adolescent girls.
b. Promoting women’s leadership through skill training, personality development, leadership promotion

Head /Lead – Education Program, will be part of the Senior Management Team and work independently as well as with a team & closely support the Country Advisor and WSUS team. S/he will provide program design, planning, monitoring (technical and financial) support in the field operations for the Education Program. Networking and liaison with key stakeholders - government, NGO partners, institutions & networks; project development, resource mobilisation, partner management will be the key responsibilities. This position will manage the Education portfolio and link with the overall program of the organization in India.

Responsibilities:
1. Program Management:
• Formalize the Education Program and Budget and modalities for implementation (School program and Leadership Academy)
• Develop a cohesive team for implementing the education program; mentor, coach and facilitate team capacity enhancement.
• Manage Education Program implementation in a timely, efficient and coordinated way adhering to program priorities and budget guidelines.
• Create standard operating procedures for program management to ensure all programs are delivered efficiently. Ensure program objectives and outcomes, theory of change, log frame documentation, monitoring and evaluation, capacity building is all part of standard operating procedure
• Develop Annual Education, review and tracking mechanism (technology based) including monitoring and impact assessment in the context of the overall program
• Regular visits to program schools, observe classroom sessions, library activities, interaction with teachers, headmasters.
• Identify design quality programming; conflict resolution and identify solutions for problems.
• Regular travel to field operations and within Rajasthan as well as outside as and when required

Planning, Reporting and Documentation:
• Responsible for high stake donor documentation and reporting
• Support in quality assurance, sustainability planning and future expansion decisions.

2. Technical support:
• Support in formalizing the Education Program in the context of the overall strategic Plan (2021-2025); support in identifying knowledge partner; and team development & their management.
• Provide technical assistance to implementing team, schools and stakeholders – for training, teaching, learning methods, developing instructional materials, TLMs, for teachers and coordinate in improving education quality
• Resource organisations/partners
• Coordinate and provide technical inputs in developing training manuals, organizing workshops, and conducting trainings.

3. Collaboration, networking and relationship building
• Develop strong working linkages with government at district, state and national level for convergence, program upscaling and working through an MoU with the govt.; develop and nurture partnerships (implementation, knowledge and institutional support), Institutional networking, collaborations and relationship building with key stakeholders
• Engage and participate in different forums – government, NGO, civil society etc. for outreach, visibility and collaborations
• Manage relationships with school, community, government counterparts and donor.
• Support in identifying potential donors, CSR investments and follow them through
• Lead and support Country Advisor in partnership development, proposal development and support to managing India operations.

4. Management and Leadership
• As part of senior management team, work independently on the Education portfolio and also closely with Country Advisor (India), Head-Program Operations & Management, and Womenserve Global team in developing and implementing strategies for realising Organization’s vision
• Support in drafting high quality presentations, proposals and reports
• Support and contribute in building a strategic vision and identity for the organisation
• Ensure transparency in functioning and create an open, inclusive and friendly working environment.
• Support Country Advisor/Womenserve in identifying strategic priorities for the organization along with the leadership team
Skills and requirements:
• Have excellent understanding of Education policy context, priorities, ground situation and be able to integrate the Education program in the context of the Organization’s mission and geographic operations
• Awareness and knowledge of literacy programs, education initiatives, their design and strategies & scaling up of operating in project region.
• Oversee the quality of program implementation and adherence to program guidelines for the set of schools under his/her jurisdiction.
• Bachelor Degree in Education /Social sciences or equivalent or Master Degree in education
• Minimum 12 years and above of relevant experience in the Education sector
• In-depth knowledge and expertise in the chosen technical field
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Critical thinking and analytical skills
• Good interpersonal and leadership skills
• Ability to adapt and act in emerging situations and proven track record of achieving results
• Ability to travel regularly to project sites in remote locations.
Preferred:
• Prior experience/success of working on pilot initiatives and upscaling Education programs.
• Experience in a non-profit set up focused on maintaining high quality work and low overhead
• Ability to juggle priorities, multitask and take initiatives
• Prior experience working with schools, teachers, administrators and government officials
• Prior experience in managing programs, lessons learnt, learning from mistakes and their integration in future programming.
