Wetlands International South Asia office seeks applications for the position of Junior Technical Officer – Biodiversity. This is a full-time position based in New Delhi.
Job Purpose
The incumbent for this full-time position will be based in New Delhi with intensive field work in project sites. The incumbent shall focus on assisting the field implementation of the biodiversity programme related activities, and support realization of South Asia regional strategy. Key responsibilities include conducting field surveys, data collection and management, liaising with stakeholders and conducting capacity development programmes within South Asia.
Roles and responsibilities
Develop technical report on species diversity, interactions, migration and habitat features
Analyse Waterbird Census large dataset using R, Python or other programming softwares
Use GIS tools for generating wetland maps
Undertake field mission to assess wetland ecological character
Draft scientific papers and policy briefs based on project findings and learnings
Support communication and outreach on issues related to wetlands conservation and wise use in South Asia region
Represent the organization at various meetings and fora
Any other as may be assigned by the Director, Wetlands International South Asia
Essential Qualifications
Masters in Wildlife Sciences / Forestry/ Biodiversity Conservation/ Remote Sensing and GIS/Zoology/Botany/Environmental Management
Understanding of wetland ecology and management needs
Proficiency in using programming softwares and statistical models for data analysis and communication
Proven technical writing skills in English, Hindi or other Vernacular languages
Skills needed
Biodiversity and ecosystem services assessment through field sampling or GIS; participatory rural appraisal for socio-economic assessments; data analysis on MS excel, R, Python; LULC mapping; and literature review for preparation of technical reports
Desirable qualifications
Experience of working on wetlands ecology, conservation planning and environmental policies
Experience in data analysis and use of Remote Sensing & GIS for wetland mapping
Experience in conservation and management of protected areas and Ramsar Sites
1-2 years of work experience in a similar position
Remuneration
The incumbent will be placed in Grade 3 of salary scale, with an annual gross remuneration of Rs. 7 lakhs with all perks.
