Purpose: Design of a Bamboo Innovation and Incubation Center

Location: Deoghar District, Jharkhand

Overview:

NEEDS intends to establish a Bamboo Innovation and Incubation Center in Deoghar district, Jharkhand. The center aims to foster entrepreneurship, research, and development in the bamboo sector while promoting sustainable livelihoods. Through this call for proposals, we seek experienced consultants or consulting firms to assist in designing the center, focusing on both infrastructure and operational components to ensure its long-term sustainability.

The center will function as:

An Innovation Hub: Facilitating R&D for bamboo-based products, processing technologies, and market-ready designs.

An Incubator: Supporting start-ups and entrepreneurs in developing bamboo-based enterprises.

Scope of Work:

The selected consultant/firm will be responsible for the following tasks:

1. Infrastructure Design:

Propose the physical infrastructure required for the center, including:

Bamboo processing units (e.g., slicing, splitting, weaving, and treatment facilities).

Prototyping labs for product innovation.

R&D labs for material testing and certification.

Training spaces, co-working areas, and incubation units.

Warehousing and display areas for bamboo products.

Administrative and marketing offices.

Include green and sustainable design elements, emphasizing eco-friendly construction and energy efficiency.

2. Soft Components:

Outline the capacity-building and training programs for artisans, entrepreneurs, and workers.

Propose mentorship and business development programs for incubated start-ups.

Suggest networking mechanisms to link with bamboo supply chains, government schemes, and export markets.

Identify key stakeholders for collaboration, such as bamboo research institutions, industry partners, and marketing channels.

3. Operational Model:

Define the operational structure of the center, focusing on:

Management and governance of the innovation and incubation units.

Strategies for revenue generation to ensure sustainability, such as consultancy services, product sales, and training fees.

Frameworks for public-private partnerships and CSR funding.

4. Business Plan for Sustained Operations:

Develop a business plan that includes:

Cost projections for setting up and running the center.

Strategies for financial sustainability and resource mobilization.

Feasibility of creating an ecosystem for promoting bamboo entrepreneurs and artisans.

5. Research and Development Focus:

Recommend R&D activities, such as:

Development of innovative bamboo-based products (furniture, construction materials, biochar, packaging, etc.).

Research on sustainable bamboo harvesting techniques and agroforestry models.

Collaboration with academic and research institutions for advanced studies in bamboo applications.

Timeline:

The consultancy assignment is expected to commence on 25th January 2025 and conclude by 25th March 2025.

Proposal Submission Guidelines:

Deadline: Proposals must be submitted by 10th January 2025 to needspostmaster@gmail.com

Proposals should include:

Profile of the Consultant/Firm detailing experience with similar projects.

Technical Proposal outlining the methodology, key deliverables, and work plan.

Financial Proposal (if required, submit as a separate document) this should only include your consultation fees and traveling if any to visit our program site. Any workshop or meetings if required we can organise separately
