NGO to plant 2L trees in vacant plots to make Tirupur greener

Coimbatore: After successfully planting 1.25 lakh saplings in Tirupur city, the Tamil Nadu government, along with Tirupur-based environmental NGO Vetry, commenced their second tree plantation attempt on Sunday. The state government and the NGO will plant two lakh saplings in and around Tirupur and will maintain the saplings for the next two years. On Sunday morning, Vetry, along with 120 volunteers, started the tree plantation drive at a vacant land on Dharapuram Road. "Tirupur has a lot of empty land owned by industrialists. For example one of the plots has been vacant for more than 15 years and we intend to use such land to plant trees," said president of Vetry, T R Sivaram.
