117 new trout units, 15 trout hatcheries to be established in HP: Minister

Himachal Pradesh government would establish 117 new trouts units and 15 hatcheries in the state in order to create more self employment avenues for the youth. The state has tremendous potential of fish farming with five major rivers and several water dams.


Stating this on Wednesday, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Virender Kanwar who also holds the portfolio of Fisheries said, ''Under blue revolution scheme, state proposed to develop 15 trout hatcheries and 117 trout units during last financial year 2017-18 as the centre has given consent to this project. Schemes grant of 40 per cent to provide assistance to general category and 60 per cent to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and women.'' The estimated budget was Rs 1,342.96 lakh, out of which Rs 682.77 lakh was part of Centre, which was released during this financial year. This amount would be spent on installation of trout units in higher altitude areas of Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Chamba, Kinnaur, Kangra and Sirmaur, and Rs 542.47 lakh will be spent on other works.


He said that Rs 4.50 lakh are spent on construction of one trout unit. Beneficiaries are proposed to be given 3 trout units along with trout hatchery. For this, grant of Rs 15.48 lakh will be provided to general category and Rs 23.10 lakh to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and women. Eligible beneficiaries of trout hatchery and trout units have been selected and soon the sanctioned amount will be provided to them.


The Minister said that the projects of total Rs 1,083.82 lakh have been proposed to be sent to centre government for the financial year 2018-19 for approval. Under the schemes construction of food plant, fish sales center and training center, the construction of crab pond and trout units have been proposed in the state. Out of this, an amount of Rs 596.706 lakh is likely to be provided by the Centre.
