Senior Research Fellow

ABOUT CRB

Centre for Responsible Business (CRB) was established in 2011 as a think-tank to pursue its vision, ‘businesses integrate sustainability into their core business practices’. Given that sustainability is a multi-dimensional problem especially in the context of India and other emerging economies, CRB has adopted a model of engaging multiple stakeholders to develop action plans for promoting sustainable/responsible business, across various sectors in India. The work of CRB spans over four operational verticals namely, a) action and policy work; b) training and capacity building c) customized advisory services d) multi-stakeholder knowledge fora.  

The organization works across a diverse set of thematic areas which include (i) business and human rights; (ii) Private Sector & SDGs; (iii) MSMEs & sustainability; (iv) Circular economy and(v) Voluntary sustainability standards. With an experience of having worked for over a decade in the abovementioned fields, CRB has developed expertise and insights that positions it well among leading think tanks on sustainable development/sustainable business. Overview:

We are looking for a skilled researcher well versed with contemporary research methods/techniques on relevant topics, e.g. payment for ecosystem services; voluntary carbon market; Capitals valuation; etc. The candidate should have a profound knowledge base in environmental economics, particularly in carbon markets and ecosystem services valuation, backed by a PhD in Economics, Environmental Economics, or a related discipline. With minimum 10 years of professional experience, the Senior Research Fellow will spearhead our analytical efforts, crafting strategies for ecological conservation, carbon trading, and advocating for sustainable environmental stewardship.

Key Responsibilities:

Economic Valuation: Conduct sophisticated economic valuations for carbon sequestration, greenhouse gas emissions reductions, and a variety of ecosystem services, applying state-of-the-art methodologies.

Policy Analysis and Development: Perform in-depth policy analysis, contributing to the creation and refinement of policy recommendations aimed at promoting sustainable environmental management and effective carbon trading systems.

Research and Publication: Lead research projects on topics related to carbon markets, ecosystem services, and sustainable development. Publish findings in leading peer-reviewed journals and disseminate results through various channels to influence public policy and practice.

Developing White Papers and Policy Briefs: Craft influential white papers and policy briefs that outline research findings, policy implications, and actionable recommendations for stakeholders, policymakers, and the broader public.

Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with various stakeholders, including governmental bodies, non-profits, academia, and the private sector, to foster support for sustainable environmental policies and practices.

Quantitative Analysis: Utilize advanced quantitative techniques for economic analysis, proficiently using statistical and econometric software to analyze data and model environmental and economic impacts.

Qualifications:

Education: Preferably PhD or Masters in Environmental Economics, or closely related field.

Experience: At least 10 years of experience in environmental economics, with a focus on carbon and ecosystem service valuation.

Research and Publication Record: Demonstrated ability to conduct high-level research and publish in top-tier journals.

Policy Analysis: Strong background in analysing environmental policies and developing insightful policy briefs and white papers.

Quantitative Skills: Expertise in statistical analysis and economic modelling, with proficiency in software such as R, Stata, or SAS.

Communication Skills: Exceptional ability to communicate complex economic and environmental concepts clearly to diverse audiences.

Language Proficiency: Fluency in English; additional languages are a plus.
