Reporting to: Project Coordinator

Grade: B1

Contract Duration: Till June, 2025

Level Of Contact With Children: 2 (Occasional contact with children)

The position holder shall be responsible to adhere & work within the ambit of Plan India’s Safeguarding & Gender Equality Policies.

PURPOSE

Plan India is implementing a project on managing Accelerated Learning Centers for Girls (Balika Shivir) to reduce the vulnerabilities of young girls forced into child marriage and trafficking for domestic labour, and facilitate their aspirations of education and skilling through the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), board of education under the Government of India. The project will be implemented in four districts i.e. Bikaner and Udaipur in Rajasthan and Hazaribagh and West Singhbhum in Jharkhand and will support 3600 girls (13-18 years) to reach secondary and senior secondary school milestones, build capacities of 3600 girls & young women (19-24 years) in vocational training for livelihood preparation and to increase enrolment, retention, and regularity of other community girls in schools through social alumni groups.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Mobilise the secondary and senior secondary adolescent girls (13-18 years) of age and women who are neither engaged in education, employment and training (NEET) (19-24 years) in the Balika shivir centres and facilitate admission of these girls in NIOS;

2. Conducting regular home visits of the adolescent girls (13-18 years) and NEET young woman (19-24 years), initiate dialogue with the parents/household members and follow up regularly with the low performing students in Balika Shivir;

3. Conducting periodic meetings with Balika shivir teachers (education), ensuring the operation of the centres as per the standard operating procedures (SOP), access and identify the performance of adolescent girls in the centres and monitor their improvements in grades in consultation with the Balika Shivir teachers/skills instructor;

4. Regular meeting and effective liaising with NIOS study centres and at district, block and panchayat level. Coordinate with different departments like education, skills building, livelihood to facilitate linkages of NEET young woman for enterprise/entrepreneurship development;

5. Facilitate the formation of Sakhi Sangams (alumini group) and provide handholding support in the effective functioning of Sakhi Sangam and interfaces with different stakeholders;

6. Facilitate/run the community-based campaigns on girls education at the village/panchayat/block and district level involving different Government stakeholders/departments;

7. Develop and share success/case studies and testimonials;

8. Participate in training programs and review meetings;

9. Compile and share weekly progress reports, at the end of every week (Saturday) and monthly progress report;

10. Develop assessment tools/ question papers for monthly/quarterly assessment of students in science, mathematics, and English;

11. Follow COVID–19 State government/District protocol, and Safeguarding and Child Protection policy of Plan India (SOPs); &

12. Any other work as is given by the Project Coordinator.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

Qualification:

Minimum post graduate (preferably in Social science, Sociology, Education, Management, or English, Psychology, Geography, Sociology, Anthropology Commerce/Management or other relevant social sciences.

Essential Skills:

• Ability to work closely and deal sensitively with communities, adolescent girls, children and youth;

• Sound ability to work closely with stakeholders at panchayat, block and district level in convergence with various departments;

• Strong in execution of assigned tasks, and responsibilities;

• Documentation and report writing skill;

• Should be pro–active in understanding children’s needs and problems as well as youths’ aspirations;

• Ability to work in a team spirit;

• Good communication in Hindi;

• Openness to Learn & Improvise; &

• Should be sensitive to the mission and vision of Plan India.

Experience:

• Minimum 3-5 years of experience in community mobilisation/teaching/ stakeholder management.

• He/She must have worked with children/ youth/ adolescent girls on bridge education/remedial education and on secondary schools,

• Excellent at communicating, and can build effective rapport with community, block/district departments.

• Experience of working with National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) will be an added advantage.

Travel Requirement: 70% of the total time
