Job Description

We are looking for a rower!

Job Description : Executive Director, Khamir

To build the next line of leadership at India’s leading crafts platform

In its third decade, Khamir has built a wide ripple of cultural ecology - with its epicentre in Kutch and its message of regenerative crafts practices pulsating across India. The journey that started in 2004, has gradually become a murmuring movement, leading the way to promote the ecology of crafts, local entrepreneurship, and regional aesthetics in crafts.

Over the past two decades, Khamir has supported the creative enterprise of artisans through varied support services, revitalized a number of languishing crafts in the region, and developed craft educational initiatives. The organization provides a common roof for artisans, creative professionals, designers and technologists who co-create learnings and grow capacities. These efforts have led to the revival of regenerative value chains for a number of crafts – most notably the weaving of Kala Cotton, which has today become a global brand, and Desi Oon. As of today, Khamir is one of the leading crafts organizations in the country - tending a robust system of value chains, providing sustainable livelihood to 750+ artisans from over 200 crafts units, and carrying focussed interventions to revive languishing traditional crafts.

True to the meaning of its name Khamir - ‘to ferment’ – the organization is transforming many of its ideas into roadmaps in the service of Indian crafts and artisans. To keep the ripples of our story resonant - and boats moving - we need rowers who are looking for their own north star in the constellation of the Indian craft ecosystem.
