Background Summary

MOMENTUM Safe Surgery in Family Planning and Obstetrics is a global project which seeks, in India, to sustainably support the Government of India (GoI) in strengthening surgical safety within family planning (FP) and obstetric care, by promoting evidence-based approaches and testing innovations with a special focus on three key technical areas: Surgical obstetric care (caesarean delivery); Informed and voluntary modern contraceptive choices among youth with a special focus on long-acting reversible contraception (LARC); and Voluntary permanent family planning. The project also aims to transform gender-based and intersecting social norms and inequities at all levels of the health system through integration of an intersectional gender lens into project activities, so that everyone can realize their full and equal rights to sexual and reproductive health and well-being.

Under this ongoing project, it is proposed to assess feasibility to integrate GBV screen with antenatal care (ANC) and immediate postpartum care., building on our experiences and learnings from earlier phase of project where we worked on addressing gender-based violence across five districts of Karnataka. Under this activity, the project aims to assess the feasibility of establishing a system for screening clients for GBV during ANC and the immediate postpartum period (within 48 hours of birth) in ten selected health facilities in Tumkur district. This would be done by using a validated screening tool.

To implement this activity, EngenderHealth is seeking one consultant in Tumkur, Karnataka with prior experience of project implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.

Intervention period: six months (April 2024 to September 2024).

Intervention facilities: 10 public health facilities in Tumkur district in Karnataka

Deliverables

The consultants will work closely with the project team to achieve the following deliverables:

Orientation of providers/staff on GBV identification and referral using the screening.

Mentoring health providers (Nurse/Doctors) in using the GBV screening tool to screen ANC clients and post-partum clients as well as in the maintaining client forms.

Regular visits to the facilities for collecting data regarding client screening, identification and provide referral for GBV services. Relevant data using the standard format is collected and punched in database provided for all facilities.

Coordinate with district to get relevant government orders issued and represent program at district level.

Documentation of the best practices, Case stories, project progress, blogs etc. at field level.

Any other task assigned by the reporting person.

Requirements:

Postgraduate/graduate in social work/ public health /Social Science/ Rural management with more than two years of experience in supporting government programs.

Familiarity with/having worked in government health programs/programs related to Maternal health, family planning and health system strengthening.

Preference will be given to candidates who have worked on area of GBV.

Essential soft skills:

Knowledge of basic program and M & E framework

Excellent communication and presentation skills, analytical and interpersonal abilities, excellent oral and written communication skills in English

Ability to liaise with various stakeholders and state and district governments.

Willingness to travel to difficult to reach areas.

Preferred skills, abilities and functions:

Computer proficiency with high level of familiarity with MS Word, Excel, power point etc.and data base management programs.

Must be proficient in English. Having knowledge of local language (Kannada) is desirable.

Payment

Payment will be made monthly against the invoice submitted to EngenderHealth. The proposed consultancy amount is for 05 months till September 2024. The payment will be done on monthly basis.
