District Coordinator

Reports To: Program Manager on a daily basis

Location: We are looking for the candidate to be based out of and willing to work in the Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra.

About Prerana:

Prerana is a civil society organization that started its work in 1986 by addressing the issue of intergenerational trafficking into the sex trade in Kamathipura, the then largest red-light area in Asia. Prerana strives to ensure optimum protection of children. This is reflected in the broad spectrum of the interventions that provide a continuum of care by addressing the issues of child protection in parallel with anti-human trafficking. Since its inception in 1986, Prerana’s pioneering efforts have been instrumental in supporting victims through the entire cycle from prevention to rehabilitation/repatriation. Over a period of three decades, Prerana has been successful in addressing larger issues around sex trafficking, gender- based violence, child sexual abuse and child protection, also has been instrumental in bringing policy level changes through their strong advocacy.

About the Program:

Specialized Social Case Work Program:

Prerana’s Specialized Social Casework Program was conceptualized to address the human resource gap at the district level in providing rehabilitative services to child victims of sexual violence. Under this program, individuals identified/ nominated by their organisations, who have been active within the district are trained and handheld to build their capacities for delivering the required victim assistance services to children locally. Prerana invests in a year-long training and handholding program through a comprehensive curriculum. Under this cycle, Prerana plans to train and handhold a batch of about 30-35 Specialised Social Caseworkers (SSCWs) each in the year 2024. We plan to implement the program locally with support from the local District Coordinator. 

Job Overview

The District Coordinator shall be responsible for coordinating & representing the program locally with support from the program team. The District Coordinator is expected to assist the program team in identifying, assessing and creating a cadre of Specialized Social Case Workers who will be trained to further work with victims of sexual violence referred by local child protection authorities.

Responsibilities and Duties:

The DC shall identify potential local individuals to be trained as SSCWs under the project. The DC shall carry forward outreach activities for promoting the SSCW program and inviting registrations. The coordinator will also have to ascertain the availability and willingness of the participants to complete the training programme and serve as SSCWs for their respective district.

The DC shall shortlist and finalize participants into a batch of 35-40 members in coordination with the Prerana team.

The DC shall maintain cordial terms with the SSCWs and local stakeholders to ensure smooth functioning of the project work.

The DC shall coordinate the logistical and other preparations for the trainings (kickstart, refresher, quarterly check-in), meetings and exposure visits for the SSCWs.

The DC shall coordinate with the Child Welfare Committees, Child Care Institutions, District Child Protection Unit, and other child protection authorities to deploy the trained, specialized social case workers.

The DC will also be responsible to organize meetings between the program team and local child protection stakeholders

The DC shall conduct regular follow ups through calls and meetings with the trained and deployed SSCWs as well as update about the same to the Prerana team on a weekly basis.

The DC shall coordinate with the local child protection authorities from time to time for them to avail the services of SSCWs.

The DC shall be responsible for conducting regular convergence meetings in support with the local Child protection authorities.

The DC shall be responsible in providing any additional support required by the project team during the project period.

The DC will be expected to coordinate with the SSCWs on the cases referred by the child protection authorities and provide handholding support.

The DC will also be responsible for coordinating on per diem for travel and other allowances to the SSCWs regularly.

The DC might be expected to attend occasional meetings with the program team in Mumbai.

The DC shall also be responsible for undertaking case work activities locally in the district as per referrals received from the child protection authorities.

The DC shall provide qualitative and quantitative inputs to the program team to plan future interventions and make decisions

Qualifications & Experience:

Education: Master’s Degree in Social Work

Experience: Candidate should have minimum 2 to 4 years of experience working in the Child protection system of the respective intervention district.

Candidates having experience of working in the Juvenile Justice system would be at an advantage.

The candidate shall possess good oral communication skills. Candidates should be able to read and write in Marathi and English.

Basic understanding of excel is a must. 

Desirable skills:

Understanding about & experience on working with laws relevant to child protection - Juvenile Justice Act, Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences Act, etc is an advantage.

Should have a network of child protection functionaries and be based in the relevant district - Ratnagiri.

Familiarity of working with the Child protection systems.

Salary:

Salary will be payable as per the prevailing rules and guidelines of the organization.

3.6 - 4.2 lpa
