Grameen Development Services (GDS) was established in February 1993 for the socio-economic empowerment of poor and disadvantaged section of society particularly women living in the areas of structural poverty in India, through promoting and strengthening the livelihoods. Over the course of three decades, GDS has evolved into a successful grassroots-level professional non-governmental organization (NGO) in the country. Through various livelihood initiatives, GDS has impacted the lives of approximately 1.25 lakh rural households in the states of Uttar Pradesh (UP), Bihar, and Rajasthan. Throughout its journey, GDS has consistently responded to the ever-changing needs and social and development context of the communities and the larger society. While maintaining a primary focus on livelihood promotion, the organization has repeatedly adjusted its approach and operational strategies to suit the situation in diverse contexts. As a result, the organization has gained significant experience by implementing various projects supported by renowned national and international funding agencies.

GDS has been executing a project ‘Strengthening Livelihoods through Agriculture Development’ located at Jamunaha block of Shravasti district in floodplains of eastern Uttar Pradesh. The project focuses on increasing income of small and marginal farmers through the agriculture, livestock and welfare-schemes based project interventions to improve their quality of life. GDS invites applications from suitable candidates for the following positions lying vacant;

1. Project Manager (1)

The Project Manager will play important role in successful implementation of Agriculture and Livestock Development Project in Jamunaha block of Shravasti district, UP, focusing towards increasing income of small and marginal farming households through agriculture, livestock and welfare schemes-based project interventions to improve the quality of life. Reporting to the Project Director, the Project Manager will lead a dedicated team, work closely with multi-stakeholders and ensure timely compliances and deliverables.

Salary :

Rs. 55,000/- per month

Qualification & Experience :

• Post graduate degree in agriculture, agri-business, horticulture, Veterinary Science, Social Sciences from reputed institution.

• Minimum 7 years experience in working with NGO sector at senior position for similar work.

• Thorough knowledge of programming processes, systems & principles, and the ability to provide leadership to project team.

• Experience of project management, financial and budget management and working with multistakeholders

• Good communication skills (written & verbal as well) and computer efficiency for MS Office

• Strong willingness to work in rural areas.

Key responsibilities :

• Provide leadership and guidance for day-to-day efficient management of the Project.

• Ensure smooth and effective functioning of the Project, monitor its activities in order to assess their impact in attaining the broader objectives of the Project.

• Interfacing with various agencies, both government and non-government at Project location and exploring support of various leadership groups for project implementation.

• Coordinate with various development agencies and mainstream line-department including District Agriculture & Horticulture department, District Livestock Development Office, Panchayati Raj department, UPSRLM, agriculture institutions etc. for mobilizing their support and convergence with relevant schemes & programmes.

• Arrange capacity building of community based institutions of farming households like; PGs, SHGs, VOs, GRGs FPO etc. for sustainable action in the project villages

• Assessing needs of the Project team members and other target groups in terms of their capacity building, orientation on project deliverables, material requirement including agri-inputs, management development and taking effective steps for human resource development of the Project.

• Undertake visits to field units, supervise their working and extend strategic, managerial and technical guidance for the smooth working of field programmes as per approved RF & budget of the Project.

• Prepare periodic plan including AWP, quarterly & annual progress report, furnish other relevant information as required from time-to-time and ensure timely submission of these to funding agency through Project Director.

• Organize monthly/ fortnightly review meetings, identify gaps, suggest corrective measures for improvement, prepare minutes of the meeting and provide regular feedback on progress to Project Director.

• Provide guidance to subordinates, supervise their work, provide feedback, raise employee performance appraisal report of team members, recommend/ sanction staff leave, and maintain overall staff efficiency with team spirit.

• Maintain the Project’s assets in safe custody and ensure their proper utilization for Project purposes.

• Arrange timely submission of request for monthly advances to HO, availability of funds to field units, proper utilization of fund according to budget provisions & accounting norms and ensure overall financial accountability in accordance with set procedures and rules of GDS.
