JOB DESCRIPTION:
Designation : PROGRAM DIRECTOR – MATERNAL & CHILD HEALTH – STRATEGY & IMPLEMENTATION
Reporting to : Executive Director
Society for Nutrition, Education and Health Action (SNEHA) is a secular, Mumbai-based non-profit organization
working to improve preventive and promotive healthcare among marginalized slum communities. SNEHA develops
evidence-based models of health to improve maternal, child and adolescent health indicators and prevent and
reduce gender based violence and implements them directly through field-level interventions in and around Mumbai
and through partnerships with other organizations across other parts of India.
SNEHA targets four major areas of public health - Maternal & Child Health & Nutrition, Adolescent Health & Sexuality,
Prevention of Violence against Women & Children and Public System Partnership. SNEHA’s beneficiaries are from
within the most marginalized and vulnerable communities living in informal settlements in urban areas.
THE PROFILE – PROGRAM DIRECTOR
The Program Director will be responsible for impact of MCH interventions, advocacy with government functionaries
and other stakeholders and promoting the use of technology to sustain and scale impact. The Program Director will
be expected to have an understanding of SNEHA’s integrated health model, and maternal and child health in
particular, has worked with government systems and led program planning and implementation.
The Program Director is expected to work closely with the other Program Directors, MCH– Research, Partnerships
and Scaling as well as other Program and Domain Directors at SNEHA. She/he will maintain day-to-day contact with
his/her team Associate Program Director/(s) for direction and oversight.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Defining, setting and driving a vision that enhances the circle of influence for Maternal and Child Health and
SNEHA in that sphere.
2. Identifying and realizing opportunities for resourcing the vision of the program and promoting research
3. Defining and achieving impact of the projects and program goals and leveraging opportunities across the
organization to deliver program effectiveness.
4. Exploring and driving the use of technology to sustain and scale SNEHA’s work on MCH
5. Developing stakeholder partnerships for system and community advocacy for maternal and child health
and nutrition, and SNEHA in general,
6. Collaborate with the other MCH PD for strategizing for MCH, advocacy, program implementation, scaling
use of technology and for the family health component of the SNEHA Knowledge Center
7. Developing people, especially the second line, of the program
8. Acting as via media and initiating/contributing to organization policies, decisions, values
COMPETENCIES:
1. In depth understanding of the integrated family health model and in particular maternal and child health
and nutrition
2. Understanding of policies related to integrated health model at the local and national levels and match
program outcomes to policy requirements
3. Strategic program management with strong ability to report program progress and outcomes and strategize
for the same
4. Ability to work with technology to identify opportunities to pilot and scale use of technology to sustain and
scale MCH work
5. Ability to identify opportunities to resource the program, write and contribute to funding opportunities,
network with prospective donors and strengthen relationship with existing donors
6. Communication and networking with stakeholders – government, other NGO’s, funders, community,
intermediary organizations etc
7. Ability to build and retain effective and motivated teams and work collaboratively with other programs and
domains

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:
Master’s Degree in Social Work/ Public Health or other relevant subjects
At least 15 years of overall work experience preferred, with at least 5 years’ experience leading a program
working on public health
Understanding and experience of maternal and child health
