Job Description

Wheels Global Foundation: State Program Manager MP

Professional Role & Responsibilities

Wheels Global Foundation (WGF), a non-profit entity, was created by the global alumni community representing all the IITs (Indian Institute of Technology) in 2006 inspired by a challenge from the visiting late President Abdul Kalam to "Solve the big problems in the world." It was incorporated in 2013 as a 501C (3) entity in the USA, and as a Sec. 12 entity in Pune, India in 2017. Its six areas of focus are Water, Health, Education, Energy, Livelihoods, and Sustainability. From its humble beginnings of a handful of projects mostly across India and a few passionate individuals, it has expanded to an ecosystem inclusive of professionals from medicine, public service & policy, law and others, and an institution with a community of change-makers and thought-leaders working through the structure of Councils, Committees, and Chapters across India & USA, and strong partnerships with PanIIT-USA, PanIIT-India and other entities.

It is striving to achieve its simple mission of “Technology-driven Impact Solutions at Scale to Transform 20% of Rurban India by 2030” by partnering with curated on-the-ground social impact entities / NGOs and helping them get to a much bigger impact scale by leveraging the full power of IIT & extended ecosystem (technology & innovations, expertise, corporate resources, funds) and initiating new development projects through the same ecosystem as needed.

WGF is looking for an experienced Senior program manager, based in Madhyapradesh, who will drive the organization’s Implementation of the IITB HST approach in 7 districts of Madhya Pradesh.

Brief about IITB HST Approach:

HST approach brings in the much-needed infusion of innovative instruction methodology combined with a pedagogy that enables the systems, process and people interacting with them to shed the status quo, draw upon motivation through demonstrable impacts at personal and population levels. With their own knowledge and skill levels stagnant, front-line workers do not find it easy to nudge the community they serve to better norms and attitudes. Sharing of the content [ with all staff of health and ICDS], taking the learners through structured assessments, face to face skill building trainings [ 250 per district] followed by mentoring of the trainees to demonstrate impact in the mother-child dyads they adopt and training of the trainers [50] is the implementation model in a nutshell

The HST approach is three-pronged in its construct. The HST pedagogy weaves the HST content into a powerful and transformative face-to-face session. The session not only reinforces the knowledge components but teaches the skills both in classroom and bedside clinic settings. The third is the HST Learning and action protocol which after being taught in the face-to-face session gets applied to the mother and child dyad which the trainees adopt to deepen the learning and in the process outcomes become evident. The application of the HST protocol leads to Increased nutrient density, diversity and adequacy at a personal level as well as at the level of the adopted mother-child dyads. Effective antenatal, breastfeeding and complementary feeding practices improve at the level of the beneficiary and thus true growth promotion happens. Since the trainees are equipped with new skills and tools, routine home visits get converted into action-oriented and skill-based visits.

HST approaches use structured assessments throughout in a simple and scalable format in the form of formative and screening tests and summative assessments. The trainees who demonstrate impact are then skilled further to train the rest of the staff in both the theoretical and practical aspects as mentors. Crucial evidence generated during this phase helps the Govt/District administrations to take the intervention to scale.

These mentors equip the rest of the staff with the required skills and thus the entire universe of mother and child dyads receive effective skills of counselling and mentoring leading to demonstrable impact.
