Job Description

Position Summary

The Research Manager works for the Knowledge and Impact team at Aangan Trust, New Delhi office to drive policy research, thematic knowledge development, documentation of organisational learning and funder reporting. The role is responsible for managing primary and secondary research including, development of study design, developing questionnaires and databases, and other research-related tasks, evidence syntheses (e.g. literature reviews, portfolio reviews, learning papers, quantitative and qualitative data gathering, meta-analysis) to generate meaningful insights for a diverse group of recipients, including funders, program teams, government and non-government stakeholders. The research manager will develop policymaker-friendly materials such as briefs, executive summaries, study summaries, blogs, conference abstracts, op-eds and other reports for external stakeholders and policymakers.

The role reports to Head, Knowledge and Impact (Research and Evaluation). This role fits best with someone having passion for development sector, with a keen interest in research – both quantitative and qualitative, a good command over English and a flair for writing.

The position is based in Delhi with requirement to travel to different parts of India.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Research:

• Under the guidance of the Head, K&I, design and manage mixed-methods research, meta-analysis, secondary data analyses, policy reviews and literature reviews on child protection issues to generate insights for future discourse of Aangan in its mission to make child protection everyone’s business and build its thought leadership capability in that space.

• Review and content editing of research and evaluation studies and publish on important platforms.

• Analyse and summarise the findings from various evaluation studies and ad-hoc on-ground research studies to demonstrate Aangan’s impact and produce learnings and insights for future discourse.

• Support in development of organisational theory of change and manage evidence syntheses (e.g. literature reviews, portfolio reviews, learning papers, data gathering, meta-analyses).

• Develop policymaker-friendly materials such as briefs, executive summaries, study summaries, blogs, conference abstracts and other reports for organisations databases, internal tracking, website content and external channels

• Oversee inhouse and third-party research to ensure data quality and reliability;

• Undertake field visits for stakeholder engagement.

• Analyse qualitative and quantitative data analysis to provide insights and actionable recommendations.

• Write high quality reports and co-author research articles and technical papers.

• Work with data analyst to aid better visualisation and representation of data for internal and external stakeholders.

2. Contributing to knowledge management and organisational learning:

• Work closely with Program teams and Monitoring team to support development of programmatic theory of change and logical frameworks.

• Manage a system of systematic capture of organisation learnings, synthesise and generate qualitative insights, key learnings and take-aways and develop case studies.

• Steer monthly review with program teams for internal sharing of learnings and generate quarterly reports on Organisational Learnings.

• Prepare donor reporting documents.

• Prepare Annual Organisational Impact Report in collaboration with Program Monitoring Teams.

• Generate regular and ad-hoc reports and power point presentations to support organizational needs and requirements.

• Coordinate with key stakeholders in the programme, such as donors, thought-partners, implementers, policymakers and others for knowledge sharing.

• Assist in planning workshops for result, insights and knowledge dissemination with external stakeholders and policymakers.

• Provide data, evidences and content to support communication team.

• Assist the organization in staying up to date on the latest developments with respect to child protection and relevant publications.

Qualifications, experience and skills:

1. Education and work experience:

Required

• A Master’s degree or equivalent in statistics, economics, development studies, sociology, public policy, social studies, population studies, business administration or related fields.

• Minimum 5 years of relevant professional work experience.

• Experience in conducting primary or secondary research and report writing.

• Prior experience of conducting research studies, preferably policy research.

• Prior experience of conducting and qualitative research and analysing qualitative data.

• Prior experience in writing and producing reports, articles, research papers or briefs.

• Excellent communication, writing and presentation skills to convey data insights to non-technical stakeholders.

Desirable

• Prior experience with conducting In-depth interviews, Key informant interviews and/or focus group discussions.

• Knowledge of qualitative analysis software - NVivo, ATLAS.ti, MAXQDA, Dedoose etc.

• Prior experience of supporting stakeholder management

• Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) is a plus.

2. Skills and competencies

• Proficiency with MS office suits (Word, Excel, Power Point etc) and Google Workspace.

• Experience in qualitative data analysis, including thematic analysis, coding of data, etc.

• Expertise in analysing data using statistical software like SPSS, STATA, R is a plus.

• The ability to communicate clearly and effectively in oral and written English and fluency of Hindi is essential.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

• Ability to work independently and a strong organisation and planning ability to prioritise work to meet deadlines.

• Ability to manage cross-team collaboration and some team management skill.

• Multicultural and Gender sensitivity.
