Position: Principal Investigator (Livelihoods)

Field Coordinator

Reports to: Executive Director

Place of Posting: Karauli (Rajasthan)

An NGO working in one of India’s harshest rural areas, we take pride in helping the people of Karauli dream of a better tomorrow. SSD aims to bring economic progress and social development through

sustainable means by utilizing the present natural resources and and human skills for further creating new means to improve the sustenance of the people.

Functional Summary:

For its community level program interventions we are working for livelihood enhancement of community. The Kailadevi Wildlife Sanctuary was created by Rajasthan Government on 19.07.1983 vide gazette notification. The Sanctuary faces heavy biotic interference and pressure of the villagers. The area is characterized by sub-tropical dry climate with distinct cold (November-February, Hot (March-June) and rainy (July-September). The gorges cutting into the plateau have high moisture regime and thus are the richest reserves of bio-diversity in the region. They are locally known as “Khoh”. The “Khoh” are the most suitable habitats of wildlife. The main vegetation is Dhok associated with Palas, Chheela, Raunj, Bor, Siris, Burdwan, Saintha, Gurjan etc. Undergrowth is mostly Jarkher, Jal and Ber Jhari. The Fauna found are Tiger, Panther, Sloth Bear, Sambhar, Chital, Wild Boar, Jackal, Fox, and Smaller Cats etc.

Areas of responsibility:

• Conduct Rapid Needs Assessment in the Cluster

• Identify relevant interventions should be undertaken

• Following the standard project planning guidelines, develop specific project plans for assistance in the communities

• Coordinate and supervise implementation of projects

• Ensure record-keeping at the community level for project undertaken to track outputs/outcomes

• Track progress against milestones for projects and submit monthly/quarterly reports

• In consultation with the Field Coordinator, take corrective actions in case of delays and disruptions and ensure that project is back on track

• Facilitate training & capacity building, data gathering & reporting by the Field Coordinator in program villages

• Coordinate and inspect work done by contractors and vendors, if any

• Establish close liaison and collaboration with community leaders including relevant department functionaries (e.g. ICDS, ASHA, PHC staff)

• Be responsible for utilization of funding and other resources allocated for project, ensure appropriate & efficient use of such resources

• Any other tasks assigned by Executive Director

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:

• Gender sensitivity and commitment to the empowerment of vulnerable farmers, including ethnic minorities and indigenous peoples.

• Highly energetic. Ability to work in teams. Strong commitment to teamwork. Creative and independent thinker with a track record of success in achieving organizational objectives.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Proactive, with ability to overcome field level program related obstacles.

• Ability to work collaboratively with teams regardless of role within team and to proactively seek ways to contribute to team success

• Ability to think creatively and strategically to mediate and negotiate successfully with government stakeholders, individuals and partners.

• Strong program and project management skills. Ability to balance competing priorities; work effectively in complex situations and within tight deadlines.

Travel requirements: Local and regional travel.

Qualifications and Experience:

 

For Projects Coordinator – Livelihoods:

• Post Graduate in science with minimum 3 years’ experience dealing with community empowerment & livelihood programs

• Demonstrated work skills and willingness to take on responsibility and initiative.

• Excellent communication and facilitation skills at the field level

• Ability to work independently under pressure as well as in a team with a consultative approach.

• Proficiency in English and Hindi with computer and MS word and excel

For Field Coordinator

• Graduate in any disciple science with minimum 2 years’ experience dealing with community empowerment & livelihood programs

• Demonstrated work skills and willingness to take on responsibility and initiative.

• Excellent communication and facilitation skills at the field level

• Ability to work independently under pressure as well as in a team with a consultative approach.

• Proficiency in Hindi with computer and MS word and excel
