Job Title: Coordinator - Communications
Reporting To: Manager - Learning and Innovation
Maitrayana, (meaning kindness, benevolence, good will, compassion) is a Section 8 (not-for-profit) company that uses sport to achieve gender equality. Maitrayana leverages the power of sport to create ecosystems that empower girls and women to fulfil their potential. The pillars of Maitrayana’s work are: 1) enabling leadership in Adolescent girls and young women, 2) synergising communities to support adolescent girls and young women in becoming changemakers in their community, 3) forging collaborations with the government, businesses, NGOs to create an ecosystem. Maitrayana implements the Young People’s Initiative (YPI) a sport for development programme that empowers adolescent girls and young women to realise their potential. The focus of the YPI interventions is on providing access to and safe spaces in sport for adolescent girls and young women in Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru. YPI’s economic justice programme works with young women to improve their access to economic opportunities.
This programme works with young women to pursue their economic empowerment goals by acquiring knowledge, skills, attitudes, behaviour, experience and support from mentors, parents and the industry to achieve their goals. We are looking for an individual who is excited to contribute to building the organisation based on the values integrity, transparency, respect and inclusion.
Position Summary:
- Co develop and manage the execution of the communications strategies
- Co develop and manage the execution of the advocacy programme through media and social media to create ecosystems that will advance the protection of children in sports, girls and women's access to rights, economic justice for girls and young women, and youth development through sports.
- Support organisational fundraising
Responsibilities:
1) Communication
- Co develop the communication strategy
- Manage the communication strategy
- Ensure further website development and increased social media presence: Twitter, Instagram, Youtube, LinkedIn, Facebook etc.
- Ensure presence in media by product development and networking
- Ensure consistent implementation of the brand Maitrayana
- Develop branded materials in support for programme implementation
- Develop and manage effective and efficient processes to ensure delivery of news, updates and data for communication with the implementing- and Learning & Innovation teams
2) Advocacy
- Co develop the advocacy strategy
- Research for and design and manage the execution of advocacy campaigns through media and social media
- Develop interactive platforms for advocacy
3) Fundraising
- Support the organisational fundraising and resource mobilisation (communication round fundraising campaign, communication with individual donors, webinars etc)
4) Leadership
- Supervise and support the communications associate
- Contribute to achieving the objectives of the organisation through the L&I team (use of data internally and externally and providing support to city teams)
- Contribute to the development of the organisation by participating in peer groups and coordinators/management meetings.
Skills and Competencies
- A Master Degree in Social Science/Communications/any creative discipline.
- Strategic insight, practical skills and experience in the use of various social/media for communication, advocacy and/or fundraising.
- Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in the NGO sector
- Intend to commit themselves for at least 3 years to Maitrayana
- Interest in gender, rights, sport for development, female leadership. economic justice and child protection and safeguarding
- Good understanding of leadership, role modelling and an interest in building capacity of young female leaders in the organisation
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
- Innovative, creative way of thinking
- Working knowledge of Canva, Mail Chimp and Adobe softwares for editing photos and videos would be an advantage.
Salary - INR 40,000 to INR 50,000 per month
