WANTED FULL-TIME
PSYCHOSOCIAL COUNSELLORS

THE JIMMY S BILIMORIA FOUNDATION, a Mumbai based NGO, provides palliative care, through its PALCARE service, in the city of Greater Mumbai and its surrounding areas to people with serious, life threatening and debilitating conditions such as advanced stage, cancer. The service is delivered in the comfort of the person’s home. (Please see www.palcareindia.com).

When a loved one falls seriously ill with a serious condition like cancer, it affects every part of their life. Moreover, when the condition is beyond cure, the emotional trauma can be quite paralyzing for patient and family. This is when palliative care, a third arm of medicine, can make all the difference.

Palliative care is the treatment to provide pain relief, symptom management and, importantly, psychosocial care, for those who are need of such care. The psychosocial care extends to the patient’s family members also, in so far as their emotional state affects the patient’s wellbeing as well. Palliative care also offers bereavement care.

PALCARE is looking for suitable candidates for the posts of Full-Time Counsellors to take care of the psychosocial counselling for its patients. The position is in Mumbai and suitable candidates require:

• A Master’s Degree in Clinical or Counselling Psychology
• Or a Master’s Degree in Social Work with at least 2 years’ experience in managing emotional distress and a profound understanding of human behaviour.
• Excellent communication skills
• Caring attitude to patients and their families
• Willingness to travel from home to home as this an on-field job.
• Dedicated to the job and hard working
• Willingness to undergo specialised training for a period of 4 - 6 weeks or more and regular refresher courses thereon.
• Must be willing to make a commitment to the organization-n for a minimum of 3 years and ideally 5.
• Palliative care is a discipline which interests you and something you would like to pursue long term.

The salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Accommodation is not provided and applicants must make their own arrangements.
