About ARMMAN
ARMMAN (https://www.armman.org) founded in 2008 by Dr. Aparna Hegde, is a non-profit
organization committed to minimise preventable morbidity and mortality of mothers and children in India. Pregnancy and motherhood are not diseases and it is our belief that no mother, neonate, infant or child dies for want of care. This desire is captured in our name ARMMAN, which stands for ‘wish’ in Hindi. It is an acronym for ADVANCING REDUCTION IN MORTALITY AND MORBIDITY OF MOTHERS, CHILDREN AND NEONATES.
Our Vision: A world where every mother is empowered and every child is healthy
ARMMAN leverages mHealth technology to create scalable, cost-effective, gender and equity-sensitive, non-linear, systemic solutions to reduce maternal and child mortality and morbidity in 20 states of India. Our integrated 360 degree approach leverages deep mobile penetration to work with pregnant women and under-5 children along with supporting
health workers and systems for early identification, referral, and treatment of risk factors, resulting in improved health outcomes. We create at-scale programs with proven impact by using our unique “tech plus touch” model and building enduring partnerships (with national
& state governments, partner NGOs & health facilities) that leverage existing health worker networks & health infrastructure.
We have reached 27 million women and their children, and trained 235,000 health workers in 20 states, with a planned pan-India expansion in 5 years, along with adoption of multimedia and ‘fit for purpose approach’ whereby women & children with high risk conditions and those facing equity issues will be supported with targeted content & long -term handholding.
