Project Background: In Madhya Pradesh, UNFPA has been working in collaboration with the state's Department of School Education and Directorate of Skill Development to address challenges and concerns related to adolescent mental health. In support of this effort, UNFPA supports the toll-free tele-counselling service UMANG Kishor Helpline, which offers psychosocial counselling services i primarily to adolescent students and also to teachers, and families for the purpose of promoting mental health, sexual reproductive health and other range of adolescent health and well-being.

In the 10th Country Programme, UNFPA plans to support the provision of MHPSS services for adolescents and continue its intervention to strengthen the quality of telephone based MHPSS services (2023 -2027). In the 10th country programme, UNFPA has partnered with Child in Need Institute (CINI), which specializes in MHPSS and the delivery of counselling services through a helpline, to carry out the intervention throughout the state.

Indian non-governmental organisation (NGO) Child in Need Institute (CINI) is regarded as one of the most significant organisations working for communities in India for nearly five decades. CINI's goal is to make communities and duty-bearers attentive to the needs of children and adolescents so that they can realize their rights to health, nutrition, education, protection, and participation. To increase the capacity of underprivileged communities, to enhance their health, nutrition, education, and protection-related outcomes, it has partnered with the national, state, and local governments, national and international funders, non-governmental organisations, and local communities.

Position Open: Program Manager

Location: Madhya Pradesh, Bhopal

Number of openings: 1

CTC: 60,000 per month (Consolidated, Non-negotiable)

Educational Qualification

Masters in Psychology/Social Science/Rural Development/ MBA/ Management Post Graduate or any relevant discipline from any recognized University/Institute.

Work experience

• Candidate should possess experience of working on adolescent health and Wellbeing issue for at least 3- 5 years.

• Should have good understanding on counselling for at least 3- 5 years on different health services for adolescents.

• Experience of managing any counselling programme for adolescents

• Capacity to communicate a variety of issues affecting adolescents and young people and other stakeholders, such as members of the government and civil society organizations.

• Persons with psychology background with management experience of adolescent programmes can also apply

Roles and Responsibilities

1. Oversight and management of helpline

• Oversight of the UMANG Kishor Helpline in Bhopal.

• Regularly assess and keep an oversight on the program's interventions

• Co-ordinate with CINI and UNFPA MP office for smooth functioning of the helpline

• Co-ordinate with supervisors of the helpline and the technical specialists to ensure the quality of the counselling services

• Oversee the maintenance of the software and equipment’s

• Plan and execute activities to increase awareness about helpline and services offered by the helpline, to generate more demand and calls

2. Capacity building of team

• Provide hands-on assistance and collaborate with the entire team.

• Provide employees with effective mentoring so that they can improve their abilities and skills.

• Ensure that the daily debriefing meetings are agenda based and follow up done

• Set up quarterly team meetings to review the progress of the programme.

• Engage with counsellors and understand their challenges and address the same in co-ordination with UNFPA and CINI

• Identify training needs for the team and prepare capacity building calendar along with the experts to conduct the session.

• Coordinate with the experts to conduct the session.

• Organize capacity building sessions on identified technical areas for the counsellors in co-ordination with UNFPA and CINI

• Motivation, dedication, and ownership for the tasks assigned.

3. Coordination with government and key stakeholders

• Engage in communication with government agencies and other stakeholders to raise awareness in co-ordination with UNFPA and CINI

• Participate actively in departmental health and education meetings at the state and district levels in co-ordination with UNFPA and CINI

• Support in preparing presentations and documentations for the government to increase visibility

4. Documentation and reporting

• Develop monthly and quarterly roster of the counsellors for providing the counselling services

• Preparation of periodic progress reports to be distributed to the UNFPA, and CINI.

• Develop Umang Kishor Helpline promotional materials to increase call volume and duration.

• Develop weekly briefs of the calls and monthly reports containing data trends and analysis

• Prepare annual plans and mandatory reports for the project.

• Undertake basic financial functions in co-ordination with the finance officials of CINI

• Any additional work assigned.

Favored Skills

Ability to mentor team members and counsellors. Leadership and management skills. Research and documentation expertise. Good written and verbal communication skills in Hindi and English. The capacity to accomplish objectives and adhere to deadlines in a hectic environment. The capacity to come up with innovative solutions for issues that crop up during programme implementation.
