About Sampark Foundation: Impact & Scale
India's primary education system grapples with profound challenges that result in significantly poor learning outcomes. About 60% of Grade 5 students are unable to read at a Grade 2 level, and 80% struggle with basic math. An estimated 60 Lakh children aged 6-14 are out of school, with a 36% dropout rate before completing primary education. The system is hindered by inadequate resources, poor infrastructure, the complexity of multi-grade classrooms, low teacher-student ratios, irregular attendance, and teachers' high non-teaching workloads. Despite increased State investments in education, these factors contribute to a continuous decline in learning outcomes.
Sampark Foundation was founded by Anupama Nayar (Special Educator) and Vineet Nayar (Former Vice Chairman and CEO of HCL Technologies and Author of Employees First Customer Second) with a belief that “frugal innovation” along with relentless execution in partnership with the Government can drive large scale change in learning outcomes.
Our unique Sampark Smart Shala™ program, featuring the voice mascot "Sampark Didi," leverages music, songs, and technology to enhance English, Science and Math learning. In addition, our innovative Teaching-Learning Materials (TLMs) simplify complex subjects, and our Sampark Smart Shala App, designed to work in low-internet zones, bridges the digital divide. Furthermore, Sampark TV extends our reach, bringing quality educational content to even more children.
Over the last decade, we have rolled out Sampark Smart Shala program in over 1 Lakh+ rural schools and trained over 5 Lakh+ teachers annually, touching lives of 1.5 Crore children across 8 States, leading to over 32% increase in learning outcomes at less than $1 per child per annum.
