Position: Scientific Writer

Position Reports to: Capacity Building Specialist

Location: Delhi NCR

Assignment Length: Yearly contract, extendable subject to availability of funds

POSITION SUMMARY

PopulationCouncil Consulting is seeking to recruit a highly skilled and experienced Scientific Writer/Editor for its Learning Hub team. PCC has been recently awarded the Learning Hub project by USAID India. USAID/India’s Learning Hub project has comprehensive goals aimed at improving knowledge acquisition and learning within and across its health programs. The project seeks to support USAID and their partners to enhance data analysis and documentation, increase program efficiency, and strengthen decision-making processes using data-driven insights. The project will provide insights and foster learning through collaboration and dissemination of the findings, successes, and knowledge gained from its health programs to a wide audience. The Learning Hub will also build the capacity of key Indian research organizations and individuals to expand and institutionalize local measurement and data analysis capabilities in the health sector, aligning with USAID’s commitment to localization. 

The Scientific Writer will play a crucial role in the Health Learning Hub project by managing, writing, and reviewing scientific papers produced by the Learning Hub Team and project partners. In addition, the role involves supporting documentation, proposal and concept notes writing. The candidate should possess demonstrated expertise in scientific writing and the ability to colaborate with cross-functional teams and subject matter experts. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

The key responsibilities of a Scientific Writer include the following.

Review scientific papers for clarity, coherence, and adherence to publication standards.

Collaborate with and mentor young researchers to enhance the overall quality of scientific publications.

Coordinate with the Health Learning Hub Team and project partners to ensure timely submission of high-quality scientific papers.

Work closely with the Capacity Building Specialist to support the development of project documentation, proposals and concept notes.

Conduct research and compile relevant information for development of research articles, ensuring alignment with project objectives.

Contribute to the creation of compelling narratives and evidence-based content for Learning Hub academic partnerships.

Ensure consistency, accuracy, and adherence to style guidelines in all written materials.

Conduct thorough reviews of documents to identify and rectify any errors or inconsistencies.

Stay abreast of developments in the health and development sector to incorporate relevant information into written materials. 

QUALIFICATIONS & ATTRIBUTES

Master's or Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g., Public Health, Epidemiology, Health Sciences).

Proven experience in scientific writing and editing, with a strong portfolio of published work.

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Familiarity with health and development issues, particularly in the context of the project's focus areas.

Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.

Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks with attention to detail.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software applications
