Who and what are we looking for?

This is a full-time, on-site senior position based out of Shillong. The Supply Chain (Senior Transport and Logistics ) Manager will oversee transportation and logistics operations for Earthtree, including the planning and implementation of logistics strategies, developing and managing logistics processes, and managing a team of logistics personnel. Responsibilities also include ensuring timely delivery, transport readiness, and compliance with regulations, among others. Oversees the entire logistics and transport operations, strategic planning, and coordination with other departments.

The role involves the overall management of the way resources (including samplings, vehicles, machinery) are acquired, stored, and moved to the locations & plantation sites where they are required. This role focuses primarily on the transportation of  saplings/machinery/equipment. The Manager will be responsible for selecting and maintaining vehicles, route planning, and ensuring that transportation complies with legal and safety standards. Will handle all operational matters including, driver management, and scheduling to maintain efficiency and timely transport.

Main tasks & responsibilities:

Develop and implement comprehensive logistics strategies to optimize transportation operations for Earthtree.

Understand project needs and develop route plans for the delivery of saplings to planting sites, nursery materials and heavy machinery across project areas.

Should be able to handle inventory management, warehousing, demand forecasting, order processing, and customer service.

Should be involved in strategic planning to optimize transport operations, reduce costs, and ensure efficient delivery of saplings and agro-produce.

Should tackle challenges like route optimization, supply chain disruptions, and coordination with various stakeholders.

Liaise with local authorities and communities to ensure smooth operations and safety and security of project goods.

Prepare comprehensive logistics plans and procedures keeping in mind safety and security of people and goods involved.

Oversee the planning and execution of logistics processes, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness in the transportation of goods.

Manage a team of logistics personnel, providing leadership, guidance, and support to achieve operational objectives.

Ensure timely delivery of goods, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to meet deadlines and requirements.

Monitor and enhance transport readiness, ensuring that all vehicles and resources are prepared for efficient and safe transportation activities. Manage the fleet team as well as be responsible for vehicle maintenance, efficiency, and driver management.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline logistics operations and enhance overall supply chain efficiency.

Implement and manage systems for tracking and reporting key performance indicators (KPIs) related to transportation and logistics activities.

Evaluate and optimize transportation routes and methods to reduce costs and improve overall logistics performance.

Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the logistics team, identifying opportunities for innovation and operational enhancements.

Implement processes to maintain/ service the transportation fleet to keep it operational at all times.

Operational execution of transport, including vehicle management, route planning, compliance, and scheduling.

Supervise operational staff such as warehouse operators, inventory clerks, and other personnel involved in day-to-day logistics operations.

Manage logistics software, data analysis for optimizing routes and inventory, and technological solutions, supporting teams in handling order processing, delivery tracking, and queries.

Coordinate with the Compliance and Safety Officer to ensure adherence to legal standards and safety protocols.

Requirements:

Bachelor's or master's degree in Logistics Management, Supply Chain Management, or a related field

5+ years of experience in a logistics management role

Strong knowledge of transportation and logistics concepts, principles, and practices

Experience in developing logistics strategies and processes, and overseeing logistics personnel

Proven expertise in route planning, utilizing advanced mapping tools and technologies to optimize transportation efficiency.

Extensive experience in logistics and transportation management, particularly in the Northeast (NE) region, or demonstrable adaptability to the specific requirements of Meghalaya.

Successful track record in overseeing large-scale logistics operations, showcasing the ability to manage complex transportation networks effectively.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with cross-functional teams

Experience in the agriculture or environmental sustainability industry is a plus

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve challenges in logistics operations

Ability to work independently under pressure, managing multiple priorities and tight deadlines

Knowledge of local regulations and compliance requirements. 

Desirable: 

In-depth knowledge of the route network in Meghalaya, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of local transportation infrastructure.

Familiarity with local laws and regulations governing transportation in the Meghalaya region, ensuring compliance and adherence to legal requirements.
