Kuttanad Rehabilitation Project

Kuttanad is a water logged and flood prone area in Alappuzha District, Kerala State. The main occupation of the people is rice cultivation which is seasonal. They get employment for 100 days a year. There are no proper transportation facilities. They live in small huts on narrow strips of land around the paddy fields. The average annual income of a family is below Rs. 18000/- . The water is polluted and hence there is no pure drinking water available. Samagra Vikas Social Service Society has undertaken and successfully implemented several major development projects with the financial assistance of the Government and national and International agencies. Important activity undertaken during the past years are, construction of new houses, repairing of damaged houses, hygienic toilets, income generating and employment generation programmes, construction of village roads and bridges, bio-gas plants, drinking water supply, vocational training for the youths, fish farming, vegetable cultivation with organic manure.
