Students of Silver Oaks International School saved a whopping Rs 11 lakh by cutting down expenditure from their allowances, working during weekends at libraries and running errands at home.
The entire amount that was saved under the school's Social Responsibility Initiative `Me and My Country We Grow Together' and `Coins for the Country Program' will be given to Rural Develop ment Foundation, a nongovernment organisation that runs schools for about 2,000 under-privileged children in villages of the Telangana state.
Speaking at the event organized to mark the occasion, minister of state for science and technology and earth science YS Chowdary said, "This is a very unique concept. It is great to see the kind of values the school instils in its students. The school in its true sense is transforming its citizens for a better tomorrow."
