colhapur: City-based NGO Ekati has demanded the civic administration to improve the quality of the only night shelter for women and establish at least 10 more facilities in Kolhapur at the earliest.
The members of the NGO on Tuesday met municipal commissioner P Siva Sankar and told him about a 35-year-old homeless woman, who died in the city on March 6 due to lack of adequate night shelters.
Sankar assured the delegation to take immediate steps and asked the officials to table a proposal about more night shelters.
Anuradha Bhosale, founder of Ekati that is working for the homeless and women living alone, led a protest to the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) demanding rehabilitation of homeless women. The delegation later met the municipal commissioner.
