Irregularities in RTE admissions, claims NGO

The online admission process under Right To Education (RTE) Act seems to be heading towards more rough weather. With technical snag still holding up the process, a NGO focused on RTE, has alleged that rules are being flouted by the education department and some schools are thus depriving students of their right. On Friday afternoon NGO RTE Action Committee led a parents' delegation to the office of the deputy director of education (DDE) to press for a resolution.Shahid Sharif, head of the NGO, said, "The law clearly states that the RTE admission process has to be continued till all seats under its quota are filled. But in Nagpur the education department stopped the admission process after just two rounds, depriving students of admission to schools they were eligible for. Even certain schools that are politically well connected have been adamant and the education department does not do anything about it."
The local education office has assured the NGO and parents that it will do its best to find a solution to the issue. Since all online admission lottery is conducted from Pune, even with dates being decided from there, the Nagpur office can do very little in this matter.
