The district committee on child welfare has roped in an NGO to help achieve a beggar-free status in Nashik. The primary plans include a shelter for children rescued from begging, and the committee has asked NGO Forum to respond by presenting a study on the ways in which shelter could be provided for such children.
"The number of child-beggars in the city is on the rise and as a responsible citizen and administration, we need to take measures to ensure that the childhood is not lost. We have therefore asked NGO Forum to come up with a solution for the situation. They said they are eager to manage a shelter home that will be raised by the administration and we are thinking over it," Kanhuraj Bagate, additional collector, Nashik district said, after the meeting.
