Hanuman Chalisa at Aids event: NGO approaches HC

An NGO has knocked Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court's doors against Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) alleging that its wasting precious taxpayers money of Rs50 lakh in organizing an AIDS awareness programme. The civic body is organizing a programme titled 'Hanuman Chalisa' on April 7 for creating awareness regarding deadly diseases among the citizens.
A division bench comprising justice Bhushan Gavai and justice Swapna Joshi issued notices to NMC commissioner and other four respondents asking him to reply by Saturday, when the next hearing is fixed.
Petitioner ? Nagari Hakka Saurakhshan Manch through its president Janardhan Moon ? has filed a PIL (No. 2054/2016) contending that leader of ruling party in NMC has organized the event where 'Hanuman Chalisa' would be chanted and due to that citizens from other religions will not be able to participate.
