Sudha Pawar, a 55-year-old animal welfare worker at Diwalegaon in Belapur, has been struggling to take care of a three-legged stray dog, who has been staying in her building compound for over 10 years.
However, for the past several months, some of the other residents were not allowing the stray to enter the compound. But now Navi Mumbai Animal Protection Cell (NMAPC) has lent its support to Pawar. "We have now given her all the rules and regulations that support animal rights," said Arati Chauhan of NMAPC.
Buoyed by NMAPC's support, Pawar has emailed her complaint to the police, requesting their intervention for an amicable solution. NMAPC is also trying to talk to the other locals, who are against the keeping of strays and explain to them that it is illegal to harm animals or harass animal carers.
