The Nashik civil hospital, along with an NGO, has decided to take up to trace thalassemia patients in the rural parts of the district from June onwards. The aim of the thalassemia detection camp is to ensure that carriers of the disease do not contribute in spreading the blood disorder complication further due to unawareness.Civil Surgeon Suresh Jagdale said the blood investigation required to check thalassemia patients was not included in the Rashtriya Bal Suraksha Karyakram (RBSK) due to the special equipment required. However, with the support of the NGO, the medical officers in RBSK would start conducting the test from the upcoming academic year. Jagdale said there were certain patients of thalassemia, who do not suffer any medical complication and are generally known as carriers. It was necessary to trace such patients and bring them under treatment .
