A prominent Dehradun-based NGO, which tested drinking water quality of 60 wards of the city including some VIP areas, has come out with alarming conclusions. The one-month long study found high level of chlorine and some other toxic elements in the water supplied by Jal Nigam.
Surprisingly, the NGO claimed that the water supplied to the district magistrate's residence was found to be the worst affected.
The NGO, Society of Pollution and Environmental Conservation Scientists (SPECS), launched the drive on May 5. It covered 60 wards of the city, ranging from posh areas to slums and concluded the drive on June 5. The NGO, which released the findings on Sunday, said that it will submit the report to Uttarakhand government and Jal Sansthan on Monday.
The safe amount of chlorine content in water is 0.2 milligram/litre, the coliform content should be 10 MPN (most probable number) per 100 ml and fecal coliform should be zero in 100 ml for the water.
