Deepshikha Foundation, a city-based environment NGO with a goal to improve green cover in and around Aurangabad and enhance oxygen levels, recently initiated sowing of Neem tree seeds in the city.
The NGO aims to increase the green canopy cover here to enhance the oxygen level further, regulate temperature variations and work towards providing a healthy tomorrow to posterity. It intends to create large green patches which can act as 'lungs of the city' within the city.
"Neem tree can be labelled as wonder tree for its multi-purpose uses in real sense. This has been used as a medicinal plant for long time and provides almost all the requirements of rural areas - be the timber, fuelwood, fodder, oil, fertilizers, pest repellent or the ubiquitous 'datun'," said Manisha Chaudhary, president of the foundation.
