The Bombay High Court on Thursday started hearing final arguments in petitions which seek the implementation of noise pollution rules. Senior counsel Darius Khambata, appearing for NGO Awaaz Foundation, argued for the need to implement noise mapping, stating that the process of carrying it out had begun in 2005, but 11 years later no progress has been made yet.
The Awaaz Foundation, which filed its petition in 2007, argued for the need to measure noise pollution by construction activity and traffic. ?By carrying out noise mapping, we will be able to ascertain areas which have the highest noise levels, where the levels are likely to go up and have a blueprint to decide all sorts of things,? said Khambata.
