MUMBAI: NGO Save Our Land (SOUL) has organised a silent protest march at Poinsur, Kandivali West on Saturday to protest the BMC's notice to take over part of the Our Lady of Remedy church land.
This is the third protest march over the issue organised by the NGO. In a letter to the deputy municipal commissioner, the NGO has pointed out that the matter is currently in court and the civic body should await the court verdict. The letter points out that the road is being widened to provide access to an allegedly illegal building constructed on the Poinsur river bed.
The land is being sought to be acquired by the BMC for a road widening project. However, activists point out that the proposed road widening would result in a dead end as the BMC is yet to obtain permission from the railways to cross through its land.
"If the BMC is considering constructing a flyover then it should begin near the Raghuleela Mall on Borsapada road. In such a case there will be no need to widen this road," reads the letter.
