Background
Johns Hopkins India aims to hire a Research Associate for the Uttar Pradesh (UP) Health Systems Support (HSS) project. With funding support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and under the auspices of the University of Manitoba and the India Health Action Trust (IHAT), Johns Hopkins is contributing technical and analytical support to strengthening the health system in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. This is a broad project with planned and ongoing analytical work in the fields of human resources for health and performance management among other areas. The purpose of these analytic activities is to provide informed recommendations related to possible health systems interventions in the state.

Location
Research Associate will be based in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.

Specific Responsibilities
Within the framework of the broader workplan established by the Johns Hopkins team in consultation with partners, the incumbent will contribute substantially to project analyses and lead the dissemination of research findings. This will require the Research Associate to:
• Contribute to the design and implementation of research activities related to proposed human resources for health policies and programs.
• Support training and development activities aimed at strengthening core competencies of human resource in public health.
• Interact with government stakeholders and other project partners to understand specific requests related to system strengthening.
• Communicate analytical outcomes with government officials and other stakeholders.
• Contribute to other project analyses, including supporting quantitative and qualitative data analyses
• Identify and develop, in coordination with the project team, new opportunities that fit within the project objectives and priorities.
• Maintain open communication with the broader Johns Hopkins team, including providing updates on policy area progress and collaborating across workstreams.

Required Qualifications
• Degree in public health or related field. A master’s degree with significant relevant experience is required, but individuals with a relevant doctoral degree are encouraged to apply, and position responsibilities could be tailored accordingly.
• A minimum of three years’ relevant research experience in public health, preferably with a focus on health systems and with experience in India.
Working understanding of human resource, trainings and development, and analytical methods. Candidates with prior experience in training in public health and/or instructional design will be preferred.
• Capacity to establish and maintain effective working relationships, including with government and development partner officials.
• Ability to independently manage the timely completion of projects.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Fluent in Hindi and English.
