Purpose: Provide psychological and Counselling Support to target children

Who we are

Murali Krishna Trust (MKT) is registered under Indian Trusts Act in 2005 to work with the poor and the marginalized communities in the areas of health and education in Andhra Pradesh. It began supporting the street children for their education and their families /communities for enhancing their livelihoods and so far supported 25000 children to access quality education and life skills.

Currently MKT is supporting 1500 boys and girls from the socially and economically poor and vulnerable communities for their education, life skills and talents in the state of Andhra Pradesh. MKT is also strengthening the government anganwadi centres, and primary schools and Early Child Care Centres with necessary basic needs, learning materials, teacher volunteers, play materials and better ambiance with special focus on girls. Our interventions are aimed to enhance retention, literacy rate and life skills especially girls.

Murali Krishna Trust believes in providing quality education along with life skills to every child towards achieving sustainable human development and a transformed society. It works with the poorest and the most marginalized children, their families and communities in tribal and rural villages and the urban slums of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana States in South India.

Who we look for

We are currently seeking a child care psychologist for our different projects: a residential home for children, Sponsored children and those who are attending schools in highly risk communities we are working with.

You will have to use psychoanalytic psychotherapy to assess and treat the child or young person and you'll need to use a variety of approaches to suit the child, including talking, drawing and playing. You'll also need to observe what the child may be communicating non-verbally. You may see the child or young person individually or in a group setting with other children or with their parents, carers, or other family members.

Responsibilities

As a child and adolescent psychotherapist (CAPT), you'll need to:

• provide specialist psychotherapeutic assessments of referred children and young people, as well as their parents and carers to understand as much as possible about the child, his or her situation, background, circumstances and needs in order to make recommendations which will impact further decision making for the child

• develop specialist programs of care and provide psychoanalytic, psychotherapeutic treatment to children and adolescents either individually or in a group

• plan and implement the most appropriate psycho-social intervention, regularly review and monitor the outcome of its effects

• provide short-term and long-term interventions with children, young people and/or parents, ranging from a few sessions to regular appointments

• provide inputs on each child being counseled during the Management Committee meeting

• carefully observe children and young people and respond to what they might be communicating through their behaviour and play

• tailor your approach to the individual child and work in an age-appropriate way (i.e. by using play or drawing techniques with younger children but talk about feelings with teenagers)

• attend core group meetings and work alongside other professionals in planning how best to help a child and the child's family, for example in schools, hospitals, children's services and child protection agencies

• offer psychoanalytic psychotherapeutic advice, training, consultation and supervision to other professionals who contribute directly to the child's treatment plan

• undertake risk assessments and risk management from a child psychotherapy perspective

• record of counselling sessions: the summary and key highlights of each counselling session should be documented in the child‘s case file

• give inputs to the Program Manager for each child receiving counsel or as required while updating the case file, for modification of Individual Care Plan

• give special counseling sessions for children who require additional support, follow up and referral to psychiatrist or mental health specialist if need be

• attend and conduct training programs when required

• provide effective individual, family, and group psychotherapy

• perform any other task assigned by the Management

Salary

• MKT pay scales apply to the majority of child and adolescent psychotherapists who are employed in India.

• As a trainee psychotherapist, while you're completing your clinical training you'll be paid in the region of Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,000 per month.

• If fully qualified, you can expect to earn in the region of Rs 30,000 to Rs 40,000 per month

• If you're self-employed your income will depend on the fees you charge.

Requirements

• M.Sc / MA / M.Phil in Psychology - In-depth knowledge and experience in working with children in individual, group, and family psychology in a voluntary or professional capacity. This can be within education, childcare, health or social care.

• Licensed to practice as a psychologist psychotherapist or counselor in India.

• Proven experience in administering findings of current studies into the clinical curriculum.

• 2+ years of experience providing therapy to children and families.

• Must Have prior experience / Internship in Pediatrics

Availability

• Part-time

• Work setting: In-person

• Drive motorcycle

Working hours within are generally regular. You may need to work extra hours to attend meetings, run training sessions or take on additional private practice activities. There may be times when you need to be flexible and work some evenings or weekends to accommodate appointments to fit parents' working hours.
