Terms of Reference (ToR) 

Developing Communication Collaterals 

1.Background of the Organization

650 million people live in extreme poverty in the world today, defined by the World Bank as those living on $2.15 per day or less. Trickle Up’s mission is to partner with women in extreme poverty to build economic opportunity and drive inclusion. We work with women and highly vulnerable populations to forge resilient pathways out of poverty through microenterprises and sustainable livelihoods. We drive large-scale change by partnering with local organizations, global institutions, and local governments,helping them adopt and adapt evidence-based, proven programming.

2.Background of the Project

Since 1979, Trickle Up has reached 2.3 million people through partnering with 465,000. We have active projects in Colombia, Guatemala, India, Kenya, Mexico, and Uganda, and teams based in India, Latin America, Uganda and in the U.S. Our goal is to reach 5 million people by 2030 by partnering with a total of 1 million women participants living in extreme poverty.

Communications is dedicated to sharing Trickle Up's work, expertise, and observations with a widening audience of stakeholders. Whether it is illustrating the effectiveness of our approach, highlighting our experience and expertise, conveying stories of success, impact and change, or sharing the courage and resilience of the women participating in our programs, Trickle Up’s Communications Team strives to effectively share our victories and our values with a widening audience with a consistent, recognizable, and trustworthy voice.

To this end, the Strategic Goals that Communications at Trickle Up aspire for are:

Position Trickle Up as a global leader in the economic and social inclusion space;

Increase visibility with peers, policymakers & other informed audiences;

Support major fundraising & partnership initiatives;

Build Trickle Up’s global capacity to communicate effectively;

Promote the voices, agency and impact of the women participating in our programs.

3.Overall Objective of the Assignment

The overall objective of this assignment is to develop, design and deliver content that encapsulates and emphasises the outcomes, impact and achievements of interventions rolled out through various projects spearheaded by Trickle Up. Form/s and format/s for each of the deliverables may be discussed and decided upon as the next step of this process.

These Communication products will be for external audiences – including but not limited to existing and potential donors, partners, collaborators, stakeholders, and therefore must be engaging, compelling and of superlative quality.

4.Duration, Reporting and Deliverables.

Duration: The entire consultancy is expected to be limited to a period of no more than three months to begin upon signature of contract and to be finalized within the contract period.

Reporting: The Consultant will report to the Communication Manager, who will also supervise and support as is necessary through the tenure of this consultancy.

Deliverables: The consultancy will be based on deliverables, with the expectation that the total time required to develop these deliverables will be no more than three months, 

Listed below are the Communication deliverables to be developed / delivered through this consultancy.

Brochures comprising 10 – 15 pages each for all 7 (seven) projects presently implemented by Trickle Up

Pamphlets comprising 3 (three) panels each for all 7 (seven) projects presently implemented by Trickle Up

Anthology of Case Studies comprising 10 – 12 participant / coach stories each from all 7 (seven) projects presently implemented by Trickle Up

Orientation Workshops (3) on Case Story Documentation

Please use a single release waiver form, provided by TU, for each interviewee.

5.Required Qualifications and Experience

The service provider will be required to have the following:

8+ years’ experience working with non-profit communications aimed at relevant stakeholders and donors [25 points]

Extensive experience in developing compelling communication content and impactful products for international social development organisations with the aim of reaching both local and international audiences [15 points]

Proven relevant skills including but not limited to communication and creativity [15 points]

Deep and defined understanding of digital media platforms, audiences, and applications [10 points]

Local knowledge of the project locations and languages in Odisha and Jharkhand [10 points]

6.Duration of the Assignment  

The assignment is expected to be completed within three months from the date of signing the agreement, with the final versions of products / content / deliverables handed over, including complete dump of footage on a hard disc.

7.Intellectual Property

All information pertaining to this project (documentary, audio, digital, cyber, project documents, etc) belonging to Trickle Up, which the consultant / service provider may come in contact with during the performance of his/her duties under this consultancy shall remain the property of Trickle Up, who shall have exclusive rights over their usage. Except for purposes of this assignment, the information shall not be disclosed to the public nor used in whatever form without written permission of the TUIF.

8.Contractual Arrangements and Supervision  

The service provider will be hired under Trickle Up terms of contract and supervised by the Asia Regional Office solely for the purpose of delivering the above outputs within the agreed time frame. Trickle Up as the client shall provide the necessary support to the service provider to execute the assignment during the duration of the consultancy. This includes:

(i).   Access to relevant project documents necessary for execution of the duties under this consultancy.  

(ii). Facilitation at project locations for filming the documentary.

(iii). Contact details of relevant people to be interviewed.  

No equipment will be purchased or provided by Trickle Up. Any equipment needed to complete this assignment will be arranged for and provided by the service provider.

9.Remuneration  

The service provider’s payment shall be based on the financial proposal developed for this consultancy.

Expected remuneration for this consultancy project, all travel and related expenses would be borne on actuals by Trickle Up.

10.Application Procedure

RFP Applicants are required to submit the following:

A Technical Proposal: Letter of Interest, stating why you consider your service suitable for this assignment;

Personal CV highlighting qualifications and experience in similar projects;

Years of experience in working in similar capacity within the social development sector, with a list of work samples (content and communication products) developed for international development organisations;

Provide links or files to publicly available content produced for previous clients for viewing;

Language familiarity and capacity (Odia and Hindi) which are spoken by Participants and other stakeholders in the project locations in Odisha and Jharkhand; If you do not have this language capacity, your proposal must indicate how you plan to ensure accurate translation;

Work references: Contact details (e-mail addresses) of 4 (four) referees from firms for whom you have produced similar assignments);

Financial proposal indicating consultancy fee and a breakdown of expenses (unit price together with any other expenses) related to the assignment.
