WANTED FULL-TIME MEDICAL OFFICER

We are THE JIMMY S BILIMORIA FOUNDATION - PALCARE - a Mumbai based NGO. (www.palcareindia.com) providing palliative care for advance stage, mainly cancer, patients, in their homes, in the city of Mumbai.

PALCARE is a holistic, home-based, medical service which provides people living in Greater Mumbai and who are inflicted with serious, life limiting conditions, such as cancer, but other serious conditions as well, pain management, symptom management and psychosocial counselling.

Such persons are often burdened with severe pain and harsh symptoms such as breathlessness, nausea, anorexia, hypercalcemia, malignant bowel obstruction and many other such symptoms, that cause them great distress and misery; not only to them but their loved ones, too, who watch them through this hardship. Managing these symptoms and providing emotional support can provide the patient an enhanced quality of life.

What the job involves: Palliative care physicians work within an interdisciplinary team that includes doctors, nurses, psychologists & social workers. The doctor will oversee a zone and will have one or two nurses and a counsellor on his/her team. The teams meet patients in the patient’s home and not in a clinic. They are therefore required to travel with the team to 3-4-5 patients’ homes on working days each week. Sometimes follow ups are done over the phone.

Theposition is in Mumbai and suitable candidates require the following:

• An MBBS degree, with preferably 2 or more years’ experience as a general physician or as a junior resident doctor in a hospital of repute.

• Good communication skills, preferably in English, Hindi, Marathi.

• Prior experience or training in palliative care is not essential and we will train you in palliative care internally as also through available external lectures or training programmes. Your salary will be commensurate with your qualification and experience.
