 CHAI was founded in 2002 in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic with the goal of dramatically reducing the price of life-saving drugs and increasing access to these medicines in the countries with the highest burden of the disease. Over the following two decades, CHAI has expanded its focus. Today, along with HIV, we work in conjunction with our partners to prevent and treat infectious diseases such as COVID-19, malaria, tuberculosis, and hepatitis. Our work has also expanded into cancer, diabetes, hypertension, and other non-communicable diseases, and we work to accelerate the rollout of lifesaving vaccines, reduce maternal and child mortality, combat chronic malnutrition, and increase access to assistive technology. We are investing in horizontal approaches to strengthen health systems through programs in human resources for health, digital health, and health financing. With each new and innovative program, our strategy is grounded in maximizing sustainable impact at scale, ensuring that governments lead the solutions, that programs are designed to scale nationally, and learnings are shared globally.

Currently, WJCF supports government partners across projects to expand access to quality care and treatment for HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis, tuberculosis, COVID-19, common cancers, sexual and reproductive health, immunization, and essential medicines.

 Project Overview

 India has the world's highest incidence of TB, with 2.8 million cases annually, and accounts for more than a quarter of the global TB burden, attributing to approximately 435,000 deaths each year. The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, announced its aim to eliminate TB by 2025, 5 years before the Global target of 2030.

 CHAI has been supporting this ambitious agenda by providing catalytic support through technical assistance, increasing awareness, expanding availability of new tools viz diagnostics and drugs, and research/project implementation. CHAI is now undertaking an 18-month pilot, “Project FOSTER”, for improving TB diagnosis in superspecialist nephrology and rheumatology facilities as well as dialysis and solid organ transplant facilities in Delhi, India. The study seeks to understand the effects and feasibility of screening for active and latent TB amongst a potentially vulnerable population (chronic kidney disease and rheumatology patients on immunosuppressants and solid organ transplant recipients) using digital chest X-rays, tuberculin skin tests (TSTs) / Interferon-Gamma Release Assays (IGRA) respectively to inform the NTEP for potential in-country scale up and hasten the TB elimination goal.

 Responsibilities

WJCF is seeking a highly motivated and compassionate individual with demonstrated counselling and patient support abilities for the role of Treatment Support Worker. They will play a pivotal role in managing patient support for his project. She/he must be able to function independently and flexibly and have a strong commitment to excellence. This will include establishing process excellence and engagement with patients and their families and being able to communicate and counsel them about both their existing condition and active/latent TB. Provide health education and counselling to the patients and family members registered with the project

Conduct follow-up visits / calls to patients for tracking adherence on regular intervals after treatment initiation

Record treatment adherence monthly and treatment outcome at the end of treatment.

Coordinate with all concerned to ensure that all contacts of sputum positive patients are screened for TB

Provide information on social support/security schemes for which patients are eligible.

Coordinate with government officials and departments to ensure social support and schemes for TB patients

Implementation and management support for partnerships with public and private partners at district and sub-district level

Maintain the TB register, incorporating required information with respect to all cases diagnosed in the district

Ensure the quality of services provided to achieve the programme objectives in assigned areas

Facilitate organizing patient provider interaction meetings and community meetings.

Establish liaison with public and private providers (dispensaries/hospitals) to promote compliances with national norms, facilitate referral and ensure registration and notification

Coordinate and collaborate in the districts for effective programmer reporting

Conduct supportive supervisory visits.

Qualifications

Graduate/Post-Graduate in Business/Social science/Social work/Economics or other relevant fields with a minimum of two years’ relevant experience

Ability and drive to behave compassionately and kindly with patients and their families

Ability to communicate risks and escalate challenges for timely course correction

Demonstrated ability to help and engage with patients in driving behavioural change

Strong collaboration skills and ability to work in cross-functional teams

Strong command of Hindi and English required
