MUMBAI: As part of its anti-drug campaign, NGO Social Educational Welfare Association (SEWA), in collaboration with a group of preachers and imams, is setting up a de-addiction and rehabilitation centre in Lonavla.
"We have identified an over 1-acre plot in Lonavla and funds are being for the project, which will comprise de-addiction and rehabilitation centres among other facilities," said SEWA chairman Yusuf Abrahni, at a meeting of clerics and activists at the Islam Gymkhana.
A panel, led by senior cleric and head of Grant Road-based Madrassa Darul Uloom Ashrafia Qadriya Maulana Moin Mian, will speed up the anti-drug addiction campaign. "Clerics and imams keep mentioning in their sermons the ill effects of drug addiction. But we will not succeed in the campaign, unless the police crack down on dealers and peddlers. We have decided to support the police to root out the menace," said senior cleric Maulana Mustaqeem Azmi.
